The Filipino

People and
Their Territory
Based on the foregoing constitutional provision, the territory of the Philippines
consists of the following (De Leon, 2003):

1. The Philippine archipelago, with all the islands and waters embraced therein;
(Main islands: Luzon, Visayas & Mindanao)

2. All other territories over which the Philippines has jurisdiction, consisting of its
terrestrial, fluvial, and aerial domains, including the following:

• territorial sea
• Seabed
• Sub-soil
• Insular shelves
• Other submarine areas

There are three kinds of domain over which the Philippines has jurisdiction:
• Terrestrial domain
• Aerial domain
• Fluvial domain
The terrestrial domain
refers to the land area of
the country which includes
natural resources found
underneath the surface of
the territorial land.
The air space above
the territorial land
and waters of the
country excluding the
outer space
constitutes the aerial
domain. Outer
space, however, is
not part of the
territorial jurisdiction
of a state.
The international or
national waters and
territorial or external
waters over which the
country has control or
authority constitutes its
fluvial domain.

Citizenship refers to membership The Filipino Citizens
