ASH HANDLING SYSTEM
• Ash handling system divided in to
following steps
Furnace bottom ash hoppers
Economizer hoppers
Air preheater hoppers
E.S.P.Hoppers
Dry
Wet
Stack hoppers
Common ash slurry sluice way trench
Ash pump house
Ash disposal lines
Ash pond
Bottom ashing hopper
• Equipment
Clinker grinders- GM-A,B,C,D –to reduce the
size of ash particles to 25 mm
Feed gates to admit the ash collection in to
feed sump
Hydro ejector water control valves(2 nos)-to
admit the H.P water to mix up with ash and
form slurry
BADV-bottom ash discharge valves(4 nos)
 Flushing valves-two flushing headers with
nozzels for each half of B.A.H
 Filling valves
 Seal trough surrounding the hopper to
maintain the avoid the air ingress in to
boiler;
 Seal trough over flow will be from BCW
water.
OPERATION OF B.A.H
 Permission from U.C.B- Bottom ashing to be carried out
periodically once in 6 hrs and only when soot blowing is
not carried out to avoid the possibility of fall of clinker
 Clinker grinders of corner direction A/C or B/D to be
started for clearing both halfs
 Admit the H.P water to B.A.H by opening HEWCV A/C or
B/D
 Ensure opening of BADVS
 Open the hopper feed gates
 Bottom ashing completion can be recognised after
observing the hopper level fall or by flame apperance
from sight glasses
 Start flushing the hopper and discharge llines
 Close the feed gates after flushing
 Close the HEWCV
 Stop the clinker grinders
 Start filling the hopper to maintain the
hopper level and to keep the hopper
temperature with in limits
 Conclude the BA operation after filling ( 15
minutes)
Interlocks with B.A.H
• Clinker grinder with reversible mechanism
if over load comes
• Pressure switch located in bottom ash
discharge line sense the high discharge
pressure indicates blockage and close the
feed gate and stop grinder
• If hydro ejector pressure insufficient, the
clinker grinder stops and hopper feed gate
closes
ASH PUMP HOUSE
• EQUIPMENT
– ASH DISPOSAL PUPS( 12 NOS)
– A series-A1,A2,A3
– B series-B1,B2,B3
– C series-c1,c2,c3
– D series-D1,D2,D3
– SEAL WATER PUMPS-3 NOS
• -ASH SLURRY SUMP
• Consists of Ash plug valves( 4nos)
• Suction valves
• Discharge valves
Operation of pumps
• For starting any series
• Ensure the sump level
• P.T.W clearance
• Discharge and suction valves
• Open the ash plug valve of series
• Ensure the entry of seal water in to ash pump glands
• Start the series A1 and A2/A3
• ASH slurry is to be pumped to a distance of 3.289 K.Ms
ash pond
• The discharge pressure of each series =8 to 9 kg/cm2
Change of series
• Close the plug valve of series proposed to
be stopped and start flushing the series
and lines
• Open the plug valve of series to be taken
to service and fill the hopper.
• After thorough flushing the line, stop the
series and close the suction and discharge
valves and stop seal water
Buffer hoppers towers
• Collector tanks-4 nos-to collect the ash
mixed with H.P water
• Wetting heads-4 nos-to mix up the ash
with water
• Air washers-4 nos –to absorb the dust
falling
• CTAIV: FOR wet system
• BHAIV: FOR DRY SYSTEM
• CTWIV: to admit the H.P Water to tower
• Vacuum breakers: 450 mm HG (dry)
– 350 mm HG (wet)
– Mechanical Exhausters: 5 nos
– Conveying air blowers-2 nos
