Intoduction

• This study attempts to analyze the language learning strategies of

the Public Administration Study Program students in learning
English as a foreign language, especially regarding (1) the
language learning strategies most often used by students, and (2)
their tendency towards language learning strategies.
Methodology

• This study aims to analyze the types of language learning strategies most
often used by students and their tendencies towards these strategies. To
answer the research questions, 40 students majoring in Public Administration
aged 19-24 years at the Faculty of Social and Political at Tidar University
were selected randomly (stratified random sampling). To collect data, a set of
Likert scale questionnaires was distributed to students. The questionnaire
contains 12 questions selected from the Oxford (1990) Language Learning
Strategies Inventory List (SILL). To be understood by students, the
questionnaire was translated into Indonesian.

Conclusion

• From the results of this study, it can be concluded that there are two
important things about the use of language learning strategies among
students of the Public Administration Study Program. First, of the six types
of language learning strategies, the ones most often used by students are
memory strategies, followed by compensatory and cognitive strategies.
• The second important thing is that gender affects the use of language
learning strategies. Male students have a positive attitude and a strong
interest in language learning strategies.
