Sex Offender Module
Sex Offender Module
Cognitive Theory:
Cognitive Theory is of the view that one's view of the world forms the reality
experienced by a person. The merger of both theories provides for
strengthening one another.
When cognitive can help change in action and behavior, there is a sense of
well-being that strengthens change in thought and thereby strengthens
behavior change.
The basis for criminal activity is a pattern of thought that has been
malfunctioning associated with anti-social behavior and devian lifestyle
(behavior of slander).
Expectations:
Thoughts that expect behavior to yield. Self-efficacy concepts
are important in the treatment of offenders.
Expectations of efficacy have a major influence to determine
whether a person initiates a behavioral act and how much effort
will be made to perform the behavior of the act.
Self-efficacy is thus strengthened if one succeeds in performing
at any given time.
Assessment:
The cognitive process that continually assesses the
value and meaning of what a person experiences and
how it responds to those experiences.
Often cognitive assessments become distorted and
result in wrong thinking and often cause emotional
discomfort.
Attribution:
Individual clarification on why something is happening
or an explanation of the outcome of a behavior.
An important part of an attribution automation type is
where one sees the source of the problem or his success
(self-control).
Core Beliefs:
Core Beliefs is a long-term cognitive process that is less
accomplished by the conscious mind of individuals than with
automatic thinking.
One of the long-term cognitive processes is trust.
Trust is the ideas that individuals use to judge or assess external
events or situations.
