4 Theoretical Framework & Sub-Module
Development Concepts
 Recovery module based on the Category of crime (Sub Module of sexual Crimes)
developed aims to improve the quality of treatment and psychosocial
rehabilitation approach.
 Through psychosocial approaches, inmates are given guidance and education so
that they get exposure of crimes committed.
 The module also aims to increase knowledge, skills and form positive attitudes in
the recovery and treatment of prisoners.
 Through the activities provided, the inmates will be able to undergo a new
experience in improving themselves and thus maintaining a recovery behaviour.
 The development of this module is based on behavioural theory through an
integrated psychosocial approach.

5 Conceptual Framework Development of
Correctional Sub-Module
 Cognitive Theory Behavioral behaviors are used as the basis for the development
of modules because the premise is based on the objectives of treatment and
recovery.
 In addition, this module is supported by the spiritual model and moral
development pioneered by Imam al-Ghazali and developed through the Maqasid
al-Shari'ah model.
 Maqasid Shari‘ah:
 Religious, Intellect, Life, Offspring, Property

6 The Basic Premises Cognitive Behavior

 The Theory of Behavior:

 Classical arrangement suggests that behavior is triggered by
continuous stimuli which ultimately leads to a significant
association to the individual while operant observation sees that
behavior is encouraged or discouraged by environmental stimuli.
 On the basis of the definition, behavior recovery must be based
on re-concept by learning the desired behaviors and training
themselves to abandon unwanted behaviors.

7 The Basic Premises Cognitive Behavior

 Cognitive Theory:
 Cognitive Theory is of the view that one's view of the world forms the reality
experienced by a person. The merger of both theories provides for
strengthening one another.
 When cognitive can help change in action and behavior, there is a sense of
well-being that strengthens change in thought and thereby strengthens
behavior change.
 The basis for criminal activity is a pattern of thought that has been
malfunctioning associated with anti-social behavior and devian lifestyle
(behavior of slander).

9 Cognitive Focus

 Automatic Thought takes place in consciousness. It is a

short-term cognitive event that occurs 'without thought' or
automatically in response to external events.
 This thinking is also known as the 'habitual thinking' used
by someone to help understand that the habit of thinking is
similar to behavioral habits.

Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme 2017 02/16/2021

10 Cognitive Focus

 Expectations:
 Thoughts that expect behavior to yield. Self-efficacy concepts
are important in the treatment of offenders.
 Expectations of efficacy have a major influence to determine
whether a person initiates a behavioral act and how much effort
will be made to perform the behavior of the act.
 Self-efficacy is thus strengthened if one succeeds in performing
at any given time.

Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme 2017 02/16/2021

11 Cognitive Focus

 Assessment:
 The cognitive process that continually assesses the
value and meaning of what a person experiences and
how it responds to those experiences.
 Often cognitive assessments become distorted and
result in wrong thinking and often cause emotional
discomfort.

Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme 2017 02/16/2021

12 Cognitive Focus

 Attribution:
 Individual clarification on why something is happening
or an explanation of the outcome of a behavior.
 An important part of an attribution automation type is
where one sees the source of the problem or his success
(self-control).

Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme 2017 02/16/2021

13 Cognitive Focus

 Core Beliefs:
 Core Beliefs is a long-term cognitive process that is less
accomplished by the conscious mind of individuals than with
automatic thinking.
 One of the long-term cognitive processes is trust.
 Trust is the ideas that individuals use to judge or assess external
events or situations.

14 Behavior Focus

 Skills Between Individuals

 Social Skills

Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme 2017 02/16/2021

15 Community Focus

 The Ego Centering approach in which individuals solve their

problems feel more comfortable and good about themselves and
fulfilling their inner goals and expectations.

 The Socio-Centered Approach focuses on the responsibility of

others and communities through empathy building, victim
awareness and attitude development that points to concerns about
the safety and well-being of others.
