90s The Worst Decade Ever 

Introduction
o In the 1990's it was one of the most
violent and criminal decades that our
country has experienced due to the
unrelenting growth of the population
which caused the United States not
to organize and guarantee all the
necessary services to citizens.  
o These causes impacted the increase
of drugs on the crime rate,  and the ease
of the typical system that people had to
access weapons.  
o The factors that marked the 90s as the
worst  decade ever was violence, property
crime and organized crime in the society.

o The impact of drugs on the crime rate was the
beginning of crimes and violence in the 1990s because
drugs with crime caused behavioral effects to people
who generated violence and other illegal activities
related to drug trafficking.
o The United States was devastated by the opioid
epidemic in the 90 decades by the large increase in
analgesics.
o The first wave began in 1991, when opioid deaths
began to increase after a sharp increase in the
prescription of opioid medications by pharmaceutical

o The relationship between unemployment and
crime in the 1990s was one of the major crime
problems of that decade because the economy was
extremely low, which caused the number of
unemployment and the crime rate to rise. 

o  In this graph, it shows how at the beginning of the


1990s with a  10% unemployment, which caused a
higher rate of 4.2 million in crimes and violence. 

o  In 1995, the highest crime rate was approximately


4.3 million, due to the high poverty rate at that
time.

o Between 1996 and 1999, the unemployment rate


fell unpressured, as did the crime and violence rate
at that time.
The ease of the typical
system having access
to guns. 
o It was one of the main crime problems because in
that decade armed violence reaches record levels. 

o A perfect scenario was the Columbine High


School massacre. Where there was a school
shooting and attempted bombing that occurred on
April 20, 1999 by two Senior student Eric Harris
and Dylan Klebold which killed 12 students and a
teacher.

o This obtained the weapons by Robyn Anderson, a


friend of Klebold and Harris, bought the 9mm Hi-
Point shotguns and carbine at The Tanner Gun
Show in December 1998 from licensed dealers.

o Klebold and Harris bought the TEC-DC9 from an


employee of a pizzeria called Mark Manes, who
knew they were too young to buy the assault gun,
but nevertheless sold them for $ 500. 
Conclusion
oThe 90s was the decade where there were more crime, violence and crime. This decade was the end of
the world for some poeple because of the multiple disasters that happened and the high increase in
crime and violence. 
oThe impact of drugs on the crime rate, The relationship between unemployment and crime, The ease
of the typical system that adolescents had for access to weapons was some of the many causes of crime
in the 1990s.
oThe problems of the crimes of this decade brought as consequences that people did not feel safe and
take preventive measures to be protected in society.
