What is Malcom Baldridge award?
An U.S governed award system that was
established in 1987 by the U.S public law (100-107)
to raise the awareness of quality management and
for the U.S companies to be internationally
recognized.

The US commerce departments national institute


of standards & technology manages the award &
American society for quality (ASQ) administers it.
Who was Malcom Baldrige?

• Secretary of commerce from 1981 to 1987.


• A main personal to create awareness on
quality, when it was not a large issue.
• Helped to draft one of the early versions of
quality improvement.
• In the recognitions for showing the
importance on quality the award was named
after him.
What is the need of it in TQM?

• Helps improve quality in companies in all over


the world.
• Recognizes achievements of excellent firms
and provide examples to others.
• Establishes criteria for evaluating quality
efforts.
• Provides guidance for other companies.
