• The term was initiated by Dr. Benjamin Bloom, an American psychologist who developed
the taxonomy of educational objectives.
• Bloom’s taxonomy is classified into 3 broad sections

Cognitive Master title style
Domains
• Cognitive domain provides the framework for
helping students develop intellectually.
• This domain is used to promote students’
thinking skills.
• Thinking skills can be grouped into two large
sections: low-order thinking skill (LOTs) and
higher-order thinking skills (HOTs)
• There six levels of thinking skill:
remembering, understanding, applying,
analyzing, evaluating, creating.

• Psychomotor domain describes
how students develop their
physical skills.
• This domain was developed by E.
Simpson in 1972.
• Simpson’s categories of
psychomotor domain are:
perception (awareness), set
(readiness), guided response
(imitation), mechanism
(proficiency), complex or overt
response (skilled), adaptation and
origination (modification and
construction).
