Problem Statement

          To
Design a Smart Waste Collection System
that allows citizens to segregate the various types
of solid waste they want to dispose and the
municipal authorities to efficiently collect the
same. The System should be based on a Mobile
Application (Android) which can be easily used.
Plan of Presentation
 Introduction to Waste
 Types of Waste
 Smart Waste Collection App
 Citizen Interface
 Garbage Collector Interface
Definition Of Waste
Waste is any substance which is discarded after primary use, or is
worthless, defective and of no use.

                                            OR

Waste (also known as Rubbish, Trash, Refuse, Garbage, Junk) are

materials which are unused and rejected as Worthless and Unwanted
substances.
Types of Waste
The following categories of waste are available:
 Organic waste (Kitchen waste, Vegetables, Flowers, Leaves, Fruits)
 Recyclable waste (Paper, Glass, Metals, Plastics)
 Toxic waste (Old medicines, Paints, Chemicals, Bulbs, Spray cans,
Fertilizer and Pesticide containers, Shoe Polish)
 Electronic waste (Batteries, Phones, TVs, Laptops)
                             Organic Waste
It mostly consists of Rotten Vegetables and Fruits along with
Dead Leaves and Flowers. Most of the Kitchen wastes are Organic
Wastes.

           Recyclable Waste
It consists of Used and Waste Paper, Broken Glass,
Plastic materials and Scrap Metals
                             Toxic Waste

It consists of Hazardous Chemicals, Expired Medicines,

Old Paints, Syringes, Dangerous Pesticides and Fertilizers.

        Electronic Waste

It consists of Broken and unusable Laptops, Computers,

TVs.
Smart Waste Collection App
o With increasing populations, changing policy requirements, new sustainability
and recycling goals and improved technology departments, municipalities across
the globe are joining the “Smart Cities” movement to become more efficient in
managing solid waste. The improvement of the urban waste collection service
and, in general, the achievement of a more efficient management of the waste, is
one of the main challenges that the cities face, especially due to the population
growth.
o The duty of the Smart Waste Collection App is to establish easy collection of any
sort of wastes from the people and quick disposal of them to minimize pollution.
The App consists of 2 Interfaces. They are:
(I) Citizen Interface
(II) Garbage Collector Interface
Citizen Interface
o The person who has this App has a User login, into which he/she can schedule a Waste
Pickup Request. The duration between the requests must be a minimum of 24 hours. The
App would store information like, the Date and Time of the request, the Location of the
Client, etc, with the help of the GPS.

o The App would also require other information like,

           (I) The gross amount of waste to be disposed,
(II) The categories of waste which are present for disposal,
(III) A picture of the wastes to be eradicated.

o The App would store the information about the user in a Highly Secure Cloud Database
which would be operated by the City's Municipal Corporation.

Garbage Collector Interface
o Garbage Collection is done by using trucks of varying size.
o Each truck would carry only one category of waste which would prevent the
mixing up of waste and causing hazardous situation to the personnel working in
the corporation.
o The App calculates the most optimal route for the garbage trucks using the GPS
and takes into account the previous rides to various places.
o The starting and ending points of all the trucks are recorded by the App and the
information are stored in Cloud database.
o For each pickup request, Garbage Collector is shown the following:
Citizen name & location (address & map),
           Garbage amount,
           Garbage category,
           Garbage photo, if available.

o The Conditioning of the trucks, the Name and Details of the Drivers, the Location of the
Garbage pits aound the locality, etc, are recorded and are displayed in Citizen interface.
Conclusion
Through the Smart Waste Collection App, The Wastes can be collected
from the people quicky and can be disposed. It also makes the City clean and saves
time for all the people. The GPS aided trucks would ensure that all wastes are
collected and eradicated. This technology also helps to prevent the spread of
Hazardous diseases. Since different categories of wastes are collected in different
trucks, It ensures safety for the people. On the whole, It makes the Earth, a better
place to live for our Future Generations.
