WHAT IS IT?
Information technology (IT) is "the study, design,
development, application, implementation,
support or management of computer-based
information system, particularly software
applications and computer hardware
CURRENT SCENARIO:
THE CURRENT IT SCENARIO IN INDIA IS According
to the annual report 2009-10, prepared by the
Department of Information Technology (DIT),
the IT-BPO industry is expected to garner a
revenue aggregate of US$ 73.1 billion in 2009-
10 as compared to US$ 69.4 billion in 2008-09,
growing at a rate of over 5 per cent. The report
predicts that the Indian IT-BPO revenues may
reach US$ 225 billion in 2020.

 Infosys was founded on 2 July 1981 by seven entrepreneurs, N.R.


NARAYANA MURTHY, NANDAN NILEKANI, KRIS GOPALKISHAN, S.D.
SHIBULN, K Dinesh and with N.S. RAGHAVAN officially being the first
employee of the company. The founders started the company with an initial
investment ofINR 10,000.[ The company was incorporated as "Infosys
Consultants Pvt Ltd." in Model Colony, Pune as. Infosys was the only Indian
company to win the Global MAKE (Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises)
award for the years 2003, 2004 and 2005, and is inducted into the Global
Hall of Fame for the same the registered office.

RESPONSIBILITY CENTRES AT INFOSYS:

• WHAT IS A RESPONSIBILITY CENTRE:

 A responsibility centre is an autonomies business unit for which a manager is responsible for
Cost, Revenue and Acquisition and disposals of an assets. E.g. Cost Centre, Revenue Centre,
Profit Centre and Investment Centre.

• PROFIT CENTRE:

 Infosys is featured among value creators in the technology and telecommunications category.
The companies were shortlisted from 72 global companies with a market capitalization in
excess of US$ 12 billion. They are listed on a world stock exchange and publicly trade at least
25% of their shares.

 The report 'Threading the Needle: Value Creation in a Low-growth Economy,' identifies
strategies that created value despite a low-growth environment. It cites investing in
innovation, developing an innovative business model, capitalizing on 'megatrends', pursuing
breakout growth by focusing on the core business, and a robust pricing model as factors for
sustainable growth.
 
INVESTMENT CENTRE:

Department or an area of responsibility, where a


manager controls revenues and associated
costs, assets, and liabilities. His or her
performances is assessed largely on the basis
of return on investment (ROI) achieved.
INFOSYS INVESTMENT CENTRE:

 Infosys Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: INFY) was started in


1981 by seven people with US$ 250. Today, we are a global
leader in the "next generation" of IT and consulting with
revenues of over US$ 4.8 billion (FY 10).

 Infosys was ranked among the best companies in the Asia


Pacific and China, in the categories of 'investor relations

COST CENTRE:

In business, a cost centre is a division that adds


to the cost of an organization, but only
indirectly adds to its profit. Typical examples
include research and development, marketing
and customer service.
REVENUE CENTRE:

• Q1 revenues grew by 13.3% year on year; sequentially grew by 4.3% Bangalore, India –
July 13, 2010.

• Income is expected to be in the range of Rs. 6,563 crore to Rs. 6,626 crore;
• YoY growth of 17.5% to 18.6%
• Earnings per share is expected to be in the range of Rs. 27.42 to Rs. 27.95;

• Income is expected to be in the range of Rs. 26,441 crore to Rs. 26,885 crore;

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION TECHNIQUES:

In the company:

The first step toward carrying out performance appraisal at Infosys


was the evaluation of personal skills for the tasks assigned to an
employee during the period of appraisal. To evaluate the
performance, different criteria like timeliness, quality of work
carried out by the employee, customer satisfaction, peer
satisfaction, and business potential, were considered. The personal
skills of the employees were also evaluated based on their learning
and analytical ability, communication skills, decision making,
change management, and planning and organizing skills. Each of
these criteria was measured on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 1 signifying
above the expected performance level and 5 below the expected
performance level).
TRANSFER PRICING:

Transfer pricing
Transfer pricing refers to the setting, analysis, documentation, and
adjustment of charges made between related parties for good,
services, or use of property (including intangible property).

TRANSFER PRICING AT INFOSYS:


Infosys has business relationships with thousands of customers,
suppliers, governments, and others. For convenience and simplicity,
words like joint venture, partnership, and partner are used to
indicate business relationships involving common activities and
interests, and those words may not indicate precise legal
relationships.
