Concept/ Definition
When we talk about two things,
we can "compare" them. we
can see if they are the same or
different. perhaps they are the
same in some ways and
different in other . we can use
comparative adjectives to
describe the differences.
Uses
We use comparative adjectives to show changes or make compa
risons:
 Example:  This car is certainly better, but it's much more
expensive.

We use than when we want to compare one thing with another:


Example: She is two years older than me.
When we want to describe how something or
someone changes we can use two
comparatives with and: 

Example : Everything is getting more and more 


expensive.

We often use the with comparative adjectives


to show that one thing depends on another:

Example: The higher they climbed, the colder it


got. 
( When they climbed higher, it got colder )
Rules
1-The comparatives one of the rules is to add the ending (ER) to each
adjective.

2-Two-syllable adjectives that end in consonant, vowel and consonant,


the last consonant is doubled and (ER) is added.

3- The adjective ending in (Y) will be replaced with (i) and (ER) will be
added.

4- When we have adjectives with more than two syllables, (more) is


prepended.

5 ) With some 2-syllable adjectives, we can use "-er" OR "more":


clever → cleverer/more clever
narrow → narrower/more narrow

Structure

Nombre (sujeto)+ verbo + adjetivo


comparativo + than + nombre
(objeto).
Examples
Jose is sadder than Juan. / Jose es mas triste que Juan.

The rabbit is smaller than the león. / El conejo es más pequeños que el


león.

( Rosa and ana are uglier than my friend Luisa. / Rosa y Ana son mas


fea que mi amiga Luisa.

I was more handsome than you / Yo era más guapo que tú.

 Pedro is as richer as linda. / Pedro es más rico que linda.


Exercises
