MODULE 3 : Knowing What You Want and Your Big Dream

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

1. Identify the importance of personal mission and vision,

SMART goals, and the keys to accomplishing goals.

2. Explain the importance of starting to act at an early age.

3. Appreciate the principle of continues learning.

•Dreams are the fuel that keep
energizing you to go further. Even if
there are many obstacles in life, you
tend to keep moving further and trying
to be better than who you are if you
have dreams.
•Without dreams, there will be no goal
to reach. We will all be nothing without
dreams. Not having dreams is like
following an invisible shadow.
•Ang iyong mga “Pangarap” ang
malaking dahilan kung bakit
ganado ka na bumangon pag gising
mo sa umaga!
3.1. PERSONAL MISSION AND VISION
What is a mission?

•Mission is a simple statement that

clarifies what you are all about and
what you want to do in life
•It is your reason for existence.
What is a mission statement?

• In business, a mission statement is a concise

explanation of the organization's reason for existence.

• It describes the organization's purpose and its overall

intention.

• The mission statement supports the vision and serves to

communicate purpose and direction to employees,
customers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• A personal mission statement refers to what
you want to do based on what your heart is
craving (kung saan ka masaya at magaling).

• It is an internal process and needs to come from

the core of who you are.

• There is no right or wrong statement; it is how the

way you want to be.
What is the vision?

• A vision is the mental picture of the

future you desire. More than just a
goal, a vision is an embodiment of
our hopes and dreams in a
particular area, the picture of what
has not yet happened, but what the
future may hold.
What is a vision statement?

•

•In business, a vision

statement looks forward and creates
a mental image of the ideal state that
the organization wishes to achieve.
•It is inspirational and aspirational and
should challenge employees
Questions to consider when drafting
vision statements might include:
1. What problem are we seeking to solve?
2. Where are we headed?
3. If we achieved all strategic goals, what
would we look like ten years from now?
What is a personal vision statement?

• A personal vision statement is a brief

summary of your ultimate career goal.
• Your dream of who you want to be, and
what you want to be known for (ang
pangarap mong maging ikaw at
magandang buhay sa hinaharap).
Why is vision important?

1.Vision helps define the goals by giving you a

framework to evaluate those goals.
2.Vision provides a sense of purpose and
direction.
3.Your vision will help you define your short
and long-term goals and guide the decisions
you make along the way.
3.2 Establishing SMART Goals
•A goal is an idea of the future or desired
result that a person or a group of people
envision, plan, and commit to achieving.
•Goal setting should be done before doing
any kind of activity; it's not just for achieving
financial security. We can't achieve anything
in life without setting goals. Without clear
goals, you will not know where to go or what
to do.
•Anyone can talk about their dreams and
aspirations in life.
•But setting goals require more than just
making general statements.
•Like "I want to have my own house" or "I
want to be rich."
•Building wealth will be nothing more than just
a daydream if you don't know exactly what
you are trying to achieve.
•You need to have clearly defined
goals so you can focus your
efforts on making your dreams
come true.
•When you set a goal, keep in
mind that it should be S.M.A.R.T.
to be effective.
Specific:

•What exactly do you want to

achieve?
•The more specific your description,
the bigger the chance you'll get
exactly what you want to achieve.
•When you dream about something, you
imagine how exactly it's going to look or how
it's going to happen.

•For example, if your dream is to build a

house, what exactly it looks like? So, you
need to look for model houses and choose
what you like.
•You are more likely to pursue goals that you
can easily imagine or picture in your mind
compared to those that are vague or fuzzy.
•So create goals that are specific, clear, and
detailed because it will allow you to imagine
it easily.
•If you have a clear idea of what you want,
you will be more inspired to do everything
necessary to accomplish it.
• Instead of merely saying, "I want to have a
big house," describe in detail what kind of
house you want.
• You could say, for instance, "I will build on a
500 square meter lot a 2-story house with
five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a spacious
living room with a high ceiling and a dining
area with a beautiful view of the garden.
•("Pwede mo pang idagdag kung ano ang
kulay ng bahay, bubong at bakod. anong
klaseng tiles ang gagamitin sa sahig at anong
puno at mga halaman ang ilalagay sa garden.)

•The more specific and detailed your goal, the

easier it will be for you to imagine, and you will
be more excited and passionate to turn it into
reality.
Questions you may ask yourself when setting your goals
are:
 What exactly do I want to achieve?
 Where?
 How?
 When?
 With whom?
 What are the conditions and limitations?
 Why exactly do I want to reach this goal?
 What are possible alternative ways of achieving the
same?
Measurable Goals
• Measurable goals mean that you identify exactly what it
is you will see, hear, and feel when you reach your goal.
• It means breaking your goal down into measurable
elements. You'll need concrete evidence.

• Goals should be measurable so that it will be easier for
you to determine if you have hit your target. "I want to get
rich" is not a smart goal because it is hard to measure.
Example:
• You may say “I want to be rich!” How will you know if
you have already made it? What amount do you need
to have to consider yourself rich?
• Instead, set how much exactly you want to
accumulate. “I want to save 10 million before I reach
the age of 60.”
• It’s a very clear target and you will find ways how to
make it.
•Measurable goals also allow you to break
it down into smaller tasks and help you
monitor your progress so you can take the
necessary steps to get back on track if
needed.
•All goals that require money to accomplish
should specify an estimated amount.
•If it's a house or car you want, include how
much it will cost.
Achievable / Action-oriented Goals

•This means investigating whether the

goal really is acceptable to you.
•You weigh the effort, time and other
costs your goal will take against the
profits and the other obligations and
priorities you have in life.
• If you don't have the effort, time, money, or
talent to reach a specific goal, you'll certainly
fail and be miserable.

• But it doesn't mean that you can't take

something that seems impossible and make it
happen, by planning smartly and going for it,
"nothing is impossible!"
•
• Don't set-up yourself to fail by creating extremely
hard to attain goals, (na kahit ano pa ang gawin mo ay
mahihirapan kang abutin).
• You don't want to spend all your life chasing
something that you will probably never reach.
• But don't make minimal goals either, goals that can
get done with little effort.
• Aim for something hard to do but possible to
accomplish as long as you put some effort into it, a
goal that keeps you excited, interested, and motivated.
• It also stands for action-oriented, which
means that goals should involve some action
on your part.
• Don't say "I'm going to be rich" because you
will end up going nowhere.
• It doesn't mention what you are supposed to
do to accomplish the goal.
• Use action words like build, save, accumulate,
travel, drive, establish, acquire, and create,
when you set your goals.
Realistic Goals

• The realistic goal means that it is "doable,"

although not necessarily easy.
• Find out if you have the skills, commitment,
discipline, and time to accomplish your goal.
• Aiming to accumulate P10 million by the time you
retire at the age of 65 looks like a realistic goal.
• However, if you are already 60 years old and you
only have P200,000, then this goal becomes
unrealistic and practically out of reach.
•Being realistic doesn't mean you stop dreaming of
greater things. The most difficult tasks can be
accomplished if you put your mind and heart into it.

For example:
• When Michael Jordan first applied for a spot in a high
school basketball team, he was not accepted. The coach
thought he wasn't good enough. This early setback
challenged the young Jordan to improve his skills. Then,
he became so good at what he does that many consider
him as the best basketball player of all time.
Kahit sabihin pa ng iba na mahirap
o imposible ang iyong
pinapangarap pero buo ang
paniwala mo na magagawa mo
ito, ituloy mo lang. JUST DO IT!
Time-bound Goals

•A goal is time-bound when you

set a time limit or deadline as to
when it has to be accomplished.
•Without a deadline, you are not
likely to achieve your objectives.
Example:
Karamihan ng mga estudyante gagawin lang
ang project kung kalian deadline na, kahit
matagal na ito ibinigay ni teacher.
We love to do things at the last minute.
Can you imagine what will happen if there is no
deadline?
Nothing gets done, lagi mong sasabihin,
“tsaka na lang!”
If you say,
“I will have my own multi-million peso
business someday”
Is not a smart goal because someday may
never come.
All your goals should have a target date of
completion.
You can say instead.
“I will establish a business worth at least10
million in the next 10 years”
Without a specific deadline you will have no
sense of urgency, no reason to act today and take
a steps to get you nearer to your goals.
The deadline also helps you plan activities and
monitor your progress.
3.3 KEYS TO ACCOMPLISHING YOUR GOALS

1. Write it down
2. Slice it into smaller accounts
3. Classify and prioritize
4. Visualize your dreams
5. Seek support and motivation
6. Monitor your progress and make revisions if necessary.
7. Believe you can
8. Action and determination
1. Write it down
• Do not memorize your goals, especially if there are
many. Write it down so you will not forget.
• Sa dami ng mga pangarap mo, hindi mo ito
matatandaan lahat kung nasa isip mo lang.
• And how you will be able to remember all those
deadlines?
• Goals that are written can be reviewed and updated
easily.
2. Slice it into smaller
amounts
• Split big goals into a series of smaller, more achievable
sub-goals so you can monitor your progress. You will
feel a sense of accomplishment every time you reach a
milestone, which means completing a sub-goal.
• For example, if your goal is to accumulate 10 million in
30 years, you can spit it into six sub-goals.

0- 5 years 6-10 years 11-15 16-20 21-25 26-30

years years years years

500K 1M 2M 4M 7M 10M
3. Classify and Prioritize
• Classify your goals according to how long it will take to
accomplish them. Your goals can be classified into:
Short - Term Goals completed in one year or less
Medium - Term Goals completed in 1-5 years
Long -Term Goals that take more than five years to accomplish

• Remember to split your long-term goals into series of

short-term and medium-term. This means that at all times
you will only focus on completing short-term and medium-
term goals.
•Since your resources (time, money and skills)
are limited, you cannot work all your goals at
the same time. So you have to prioritize your
goals.
•List them according to their importance,
with the most important goals in the top list.
•Concentrate your efforts in the most
important items and moved down the list as
each goal is accomplished.
Kung dumating man ang panahon na kailangan mong mamimili kung alin sa iyong
mga pangarap ang patuloy mong pupursigihin at alin ang bibitawan, alam mo na
kung alin ang pipiliin kung naka-prioritize ang mga ito.
4. Visualize your
dreams :
•Use “visualization” to keep you
inspired and always doing what’s
necessary for you to achieve your
goals. It’s a powerful technique that
will help you succeed.
• When you visualized, you create a “mental
picture” of what you want to happen.
• You imagine your dreams coming true.
• If you have a poor imagination, look for
pictures that closely represents your goal and
cut it out; it could be a picture of a house, a
car, the beach or anything.
5. Seek support and
Motivation
You need the support of the people to
achieve your goals. Discuss your dreams
with people you love most; your spouse,
your children, your parents and friends.
They are your main “cheering squad” who
will inspire and encourage you keep going.
Mahirap magpursige kung wala kang
nakakausap tungkol sa iyong mga
pangarap sa buhay.
At lalong mas mahirap kung walang
tutulong sa’yo na makatayo kung
sakaling ika’y madapa.
6. Monitor your progress
and make revisions if
necessary.
Review you goals at least once a year and see how
much progress you have made. If you do not monitor
your progress regularly you will never know if you are
way off the mark.

Checking your progress every year will allow you to

make the necessary adjustments so that you can get
back in hitting your target if you are behind schedule.
Isipin mo na lang ang iyong
pagkadismaya kung nalaman mo na wala
pa sa kalahati ng goal mo para sa
retirement ang nagawa mo isang taon na
lang bago ka magretiro.
7. Believe you can!
Now that you know the different
strategies which can help you achieve
your goals you have to convince yourself
that you can do it. Believe in your
dreams. Believe that it can really happen.
Wag mong isipin na mahirap; wag mo
isipin na baka hindi kayanin; wag mo
isipin na hindi ka magtatagumpay.
Kung sa isip pa lang talo ka na, paano
ka pa mananalo?
8. Action and
Determination
Without action all the strategies that we have
shared will not work.
Hindi mo na lang sana pinagod ang sarili mo sa
pagbuo ng mga pangarap kung di ka rin lang
gagalaw.
Kailangan mong umaksyon, galaw galaw baka
atakehin ka ng katamaran. Hindi matutupad ang
mga hinahangad mo hangga’t nasa isipan lang
ang mga ito.
 Try to do something everyday to bring you a step
closer to your dreams. For instance, spending your
money wisely each day will get you several pesos
nearer to your goal of building up millions in
retirement funds.
 Angmaliliit na gawain kapag pinagsama-sama ay
magiging malaki rin.
 Don’tlet anything or anyone (including yourself) stop
you from reaching for your dreams.
9. Submit Everything
to God!
Sabi ng isang awit,
“Ano man ang iyong maging
kapalaran, tanging Diyos
lamang ang nakakaalam”
