Spoken English:
Offering Helps
Pronunciation Center
You are offering help/assistance to
someone else, it is considered polite if
you use the “past form” instead of
“present form”.
For example, the sentence, “Can I bring
you a drink?” will be less polite than, “Could
I bring you a drink?”

Offering Helps or Service

There are many factors for which sentences you
should use and they differ depending on whom
you are speaking to. Your relationship to
someone you are speaking with may also
influence the sentence you choose.

For example, it will obviously be different when you

are asking for help from your parent than your
friends.
