geographic area within the range of 10 km
mainly used within offices, institutions,
organizations, etc.
High data transfer rate
Same transmission medium
 2. Metropolitan Area Network (LAN)

A computer network that is larger than LAN

but smaller than WAN
mainly used to connect several LANs within
large town or cities.
Maximum range is 100km in size
Uses same or different transmission medium
 3. Wide Area Network (LAN)

A computer network that spans over large-

scale geographical area
Connects multiple LANs or MANs throughout
the globe
Uses different transmission medium
