PRESENT PERFECT TENSE

The social function
A.The present perfect expresses the idea
that something happened (or never
happened) before now, at unspecified
time in the past. The exact time it
happened is not important.
Note: if there is specific time
mentioned,the simple past is used.
e.g.They move into a new apartement last
month.
Present Perfect Tense (A)

1. They have moved into a new apartment.
2. Have you ever visited Mexico?
3. I have never seen snow
4. I have already seen the movie
5. Jack hasn’t seen it yet.
6. Anna started a letter to her parents last week,but
she still hasn’t finished it.
7. Alex feels bad. He has just heard some bad news.
Adverb of time that are frequently used with
the simple present perfect tense.
1. Ever
2. Never
3. Already
4. Yet
5. Still
6. Just

B. The present perfect also express


the repetition of an activity
before now. The excact time of
each repetition is not important.

1. We have had four tests so far this semester.
2. I have written my wife letter every other day
for the last two weeks
3. I have met many people since I came here in
June.
4. I have flown on an airplane many times.
Note: Notice in (1): so far is
frequently used with the present
perfect tense

C. The preset perfect tense, when used with For
and since, also expresses a situation that
began in the past and continues to the
present.

4. I have liked cowboy movies ever since I was a
child.
