PERFORMING ARTS:

FILMING

SEM. MARK JORDAN A. NATURA

What is Film?

Film – also know as “movie” or “moving

pictures” is a series of moving images shown in
the screen, usually with sounds, that makes up a
story.
Some people like to see new films at the theater
as soon as they’re released.
What is the Importance of Film

Is considered to be an important art form, a

source of popular entertainment, and a
powerful medium for educating—or
indoctrinating—citizens. The visual basis of
film gives it a universal power of
communication.
FIVE ELEMENTS OF FILMING
1) Cinematography

Is the art and craft of making motion pictures by capturing a story

visually. Though, technically, cinematography is the art and the
science of recording light either electronically onto an image
sensor or chemically onto film.
 Taken from the Greek for “writing with movement,”
cinematography is the creation of images you see on screen. A
series of shots that form a cohesive narrative. Cinematography
composes each shot, considering, where everything in frame
demands attention.
2) SOUNDS

Sounds or sound effects are most often added into the

movie post production. Many times when filming a
scene with multiple actions going on at the same time,
such as dialogue, sword fighting and other
background action, sound effects are added post
production to make the effect louder.
3) MISE-EN-SCENE

Is the arrangement of scenery and stage properties in

a play. Translated from French, it means “setting the
stage” but, in film analysis, the term mise en scene
refers to everything in front of the camera, including
the set design, lighting, and actors.
4) EDITING

On its most fundamental level, film editing is the art,

technique and practice of assembling shots into a
coherent sequence. The job of an editor is not simply
to mechanically put pieces of a film together, cut off
film slates or edit dialogue scenes. … Editors usually
play a dynamic role in the making of a film.
5) NARRATIVE

Narrative is the art of storytelling, something we

all do every day. It is an important part of our lives
and something that we value highly, if you
consider the amount of time we all spend in front
of television and cinema screens receiving
narratives.
