Earth’s older cousin planet Kepler

• Kepler ’s discovery was
announced by NASA on
23 July 2015.
• It is the first potentially rocky
super-Earth planet discovered
orbiting within the habitable zone of star
very similar to sun.
• It is 60% larger in diameter than Earth, and its
temperature is similar to our planet.
 DISCOVERY OF INSULIN
• In 1921 Canadian physician Frederick
Banting and medical student Charles
H.Best would be credited with
discovering the hormone insulin in the
pancreatic extracts of dogs.
• Banting and Best injected the
hormone into a dog and found that it
lowered high blood glucose levels to
normal.
• The pair then developed insulin for
human treatment with the help of
canadian chemist James B.Collip and
scottish physiologist J.J.R Macleod.
 DISCOVERY OF DNA
• On February 28, 1953, JAMES WATSON of the United
States and FRANCIS CRICK of England made one the
greatest scientific discoveries in history.
• The two scientists found the double-helix structure of
DNA. It is made up of two strands that twist around
each other.
• Our genes are made of DNA and determine how the
things like what color hair and eyes we’ll have.
• In 1962, they were awarded the NOBEL PRIZE for their
work.
 EARTH IS ROUND
 When Columbus lived, people thought
that the earth was flat.
 “How brave the sailor of 1492 must
have been,” you might imagine,” to travel
towards the edge of the world without
fear of falling off!”
 Around 350 BC, the great Aristotle
declared that the Earth was a sphere and
during the next hundred years or so,
Aristarchus and Eratosthenes actually
measured the size of the Earth!
 DISCOVERY OF GRAVITY

of Gravity! Sir Issac Newton was an
