FORMULAE
15) The total amount of milk in a jug and a mug is L litres. If m ml of milk from the mug is used to make
cakes, the amount of milk will be half as much as that in the jug. Write a formula for the amount of milk in the
jug, J, in litres. Evaluate the equation if given L = 2.5 and m = 250.

16) Richard has RMx more than Gopi. Every day, Richard spends RMy and Gopi spends RMz. After Richard
spends all of his money, Gopi still had RMs balance. Write a formula for the amount of money Richard has, P
at first. Solve the equation when given x = 120, y = 24, z = 18 and s= 120.
17) In a test, cach candidate must answer 20 questions. x marks will be given if the answer is correct and y
marks will be deducted if the answer is wrong. Zila answers 13 correct questions and Badrul answers 9 correct
questions. Calculate
(a) Zila and Badrul's marks by connecting the above equation,
(b) Zila and Badrul's marks if every correct answer will be given 4 marks and the wrong answer will be
deducted 2 marks.
18) Akmal bought 100 apples at x cents each and 80 guavas at y cents each. He put 5 apples and 4 guava into a
plastic bag and sold them at (8x + 6y) cents for each plastic bag.
(a) Write the expression in terms ofx and y for
(i) the amount of money spent on the fruits,
(ii) the amount of money earned from the sale for all plastic bags.
(b) Given the total cost is RM40 and the profit is 55%, find the values of x and y.
