1. Ibaloi Badiw. This vocal genres is considered to be the
signature from the specific culture of Cordillera. The vocal
genres among the native
communities may be classify based on their function.
2. The Infancy. Songs are Owiwi (Kalinga), Dagdagay
(Kalinga), Oppia (Kalinga), Langan bata-bata (Tausug),
Bua (Subannen), and Kawayanna
(Kalinga).

Vocal Music
1. Marayaw- This song is used to communicate spirits in rituals
for healing and protecting the community
2. Pamuybuyen- It is a legend which means “fear of water”
3. Ambahan- It consists of 7 syllables with rhythm at the end of
the line. It is often used in courtship, and by visitors to ask food.
Ambahan are usually written on bamboo and performed or
chanted with accompanying
instruments.

The music of Palawan is described by copying the
sounds from nature and the environment. The native
language highly influenced their music.
Vocal Music
The native of Palawan have different kinds of vocal forms.
1. Kulial. A lyrical poem that expresses love.
2. Tultul. It is all about epic heroes and usually chanted at
night, ending at daybreak.

Vocal Music
Visayan music has different functions in their lives.
The songs in Visayas comprise children’s songs,
lullabies, ballad, working songs, and serenade.
The common theme of the musical style is about
love and marriage and usually performed by good
singers as well as dancers and actors.

ARTS AND CRAFTS


Mindoro
There are seven native groups living in Mindoro
and they call themselves collectively as Mangyan.
They are different from each other in terms of
language, customs and way of living.
The Iraya Mangyan of Mindoro are fond of making
baskets with intricate patterns and designs of
humans, animals, trees, and other objects. It is made
of dried nito grass and forest vines, To weave their
unique baskets they must be patient and meticulous.

Palawan
Palawan is known for country’s last frontier. It is
rich in natural and cultural diversity. Tagbanua is
said to be the first
inhabitants of Palawan.
Tingkop
A cone-shaped colander harvest basket made of
blackened and natural bamboo. The extremely
subtle changing of the under-over pattern of the
bamboo strips makes the design stands out thus,
displays the Palawan weavers’ craftsmanship.

Aklan
Weave baskets, trays and mats
are popular craft in Aklan. They use
pandan and bariw plants to make
their products. Weaving or
pagrarara is often a form of social
interaction for them.

Basket weaving is among the earliest industries
in Bohol, particularly in the town of Antequera
where most of the weavers have developed the
skills and have handed down from generation to

Antequera is known as the “Basket Capital of
Bohol”. Their products are made from whatever
native products on hand such as bamboo, rattan,
wicker, nito, buri, sigid, and other vines

- one of the most important ancient artifacts
from the Philippines. (890-710 BCE)
- excavated in the early 1960’s inside the
Manunggul Cave, Lipuun Point Palawan.
- the upper portion of the jar as well as the
cover is incised with curvilinear scroll designs
and painted with natural iron or hematite.

The growth spurt creates an increased demand for
energy and nutrients during the adolescence stage. The
nutrients needed by your body is higher than any other
stage in your lifecycle. It just shows that nutrition and
physical development are related. Ideal food is essential to
achieve your full potential development.
At this stage, you have a greater need for certain
nutrients, such as calcium, iron, protein, and energy foods
because of your rapid growth and development. As appetite
is also likely to increases, food choices must be prepared
carefully.

D The best way to make sure teens are getting all the
nutrients they need, its best to eat mainly from the core
food groups:
• Plenty of different vegetables, including legumes
• Fruits
• Whole grains such as breads, cereals, rice, pasta,

• Lean meats and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and
seeds
• Milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or their alternatives, mostly
reduced fat

D For you to grow and develop to the fullest and to improve your
nutritional status, it is important to follow healthy eating
guidelines such as:
1. Eat a variety of foods every day. Choosing and eating a
variety of foods each day is important in building a healthy body.
2. Eat foods that are low in fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol to
lower the risk of heart diseases. Avoid too much cholesterol in
your diet.
3. Consume milk, milk products, and other calcium-rich foods
such as small fish and dark green leafy vegetables. These are
good sources of protein and calcium; however, small fish are
high in uric acid and should be eaten in small amounts
especially by adults.

D 4. Use sugar in moderation.


5. Eat more vegetables, fruits, and root crops. Vegetables and
fruits are rich in vitamins and minerals and some are high in
fiber. Eating a variety of this group will help you prevent chronic
diseases and will keep you healthy.
6. Eat foods cooked in edible/cooking oil in your daily meals.

chronic energy deficiency. Fats and oils are also essential for
the absorption and utilization of fat-soluble vitamins, such as

perspiration during strenuous physical activities
