FRIDA KAHLO

MAGDALENA CARMEN FRIDA KAHLO CALDERÓN, BETTER

KNOWN AS FRIDA KAHLO WAS A VERY GOOD MEXICAN
PAINTER.
FIRST YEARS OF HER LIFE
 FRIDA WAS BORN THE 6 OF JULY IN 1907 IN
COYOACÁN (MEXICO CITY), SHE HAD 3 SISTERS
AND ONE BROTHER.

 Until the age of 18, Frida showed no interest
in the art world; in fact, she was more
interested in practicing a sport that would
restore her health.
 On September 17, 1925 Frida suffered a very
serious accident: the bus she was traveling
in was run over by a streetcar, crushed
against a wall and completely destroyed.
 This misfortune would mark her for life and
would later be reflected in her paintings.
Frida was unable to walk for three months
and underwent thirty-two operations.
HER CAREER IN PAINTING

 But this did not stop her from painting: a special
easel made it easier for her to paint while lying in
bed and a mirror placed on top of it allowed her to
see herself. The first pictures she painted were self-
portraits, since, as she said, "I paint myself because I
spend a lot of time alone and because I am the
subject I know best".
LAST DAYS

In 1953 her leg had to be amputated below the knee due to gangrene.
This plunged her into a great depression that led her to attempt suicide
on a couple of occasions. During this time, Frida wrote poems in her
diaries, most of them related to pain and suffering. On April 19, 1954
she was admitted to the English Hospital after another suicide attempt
and, although she wrote in her diary that she would not relapse, on
May 6 she had to be hospitalized again for the same reason.
 Shortly before her death Frida said: "When I die, burn my body. I
don't want to be buried. I have spent too much time lying down.
Just burn it! On July 13, 1954, Frida Kahlo dies.
