Who is Frida Kahlo?


Frida Kahlo was born in Coyoacan, Mexico in 1907.
Her father was an artist, and he taught Frida how to paint

when she was a little girl.


When she was 7 years old, she was diagnosed with polio

and had to stay in bed for 9 months!


Thats when Frida taught herself how to draw.

When Frida was only 18 years old, she was in a terrible

bus accident which left her in constant pain for the rest of her life. September 19, 1926

After the accident, Frida found the courage to live by painting.


She painted the things that were important to her special days, dreams, and the world of her imagination. When she was in pain and couldnt leave her bed, she painted in bed.

Frida painted lots of pictures of herself


Sometimes, she would put her favorite pet monkey or dog

in her paintings with her!

"I paint self portraits because I am so often alone. Because I am the subject I know best."

Frida married famous Muralist, Diego Rivera (august 1921)
He influenced her in her paintings, especially

because they had marriage problems. Her feelings of hatred, sadness reflects her art.
