Progressive Tenses are used to show actions that take
place over or period of time.
When we use the Conditional Progressive which happen over time

We use it for something that might happen or predicted to

be happening and we also use it in the main clause in type
II of the Conditional sentences. To make a verb, you need
to add – “ ing” to the end.
Example : Playing ,running , watching
USING PROGRESSIVE VERB FORMS IN CONDITIONAL
SENTENCES
Even in conditional sentences, progressive verb forms are used in progressive situations.
For example :

True : It was raining yesterday afternoon, so I did not go for a walk.

Conditional : If it had not been raining, I would have gone for a walk.

True : It was not living in Chota last year, I was not working as a policewoman.
Conditional : If I had been living in Chota last year, I would have been working
policewoman.
USING PROGRESSIVE VERB FORMS IN CONDITIONAL
SENTENCES
Notice the use of progressive verb forms in these example. When something in progress, you
use progressive verbs even in conditional sentences.

Now, these are “true” events in progress :

- You are looking at this computer screen right now.
- You are aren’t doing something else.

And these are progressive verb forms in conditional sentences :

- If you weren’t looking at this computer screen right now, you would be doing something
else.
