ORGANIZING DATA
When a person collects information
about a certain topic, that person is
collecting data. The number of times
the data value occurs is known as
frequency. The persons from whom you
collect the data is called respondents.
Collecting data can be done
in several ways and can be
presented in different forms.
Some of the most common
ways to collect data are through
observations, surveys,
interviews, experiments, and
existing documents or records.
Collected data are presented in
various kinds such as charts, tables
and graphs so that the readers can
understand the data and give
immediate interpretation about it.

Leila surveyed her class to see what their favorite colors are. She

chose the top four colors and decided on an “others” category for

the remaining colors. The top four colors are blue, green, yellow,

and red. When Leila counted each category, she found out that 10

pupils liked blue, 9 pupils are liked red, 7 pupils liked green, and 8

pupils liked yellow. There are 35 pupils in her class.
