 We are surrounded
with various Living Things
Around
and Non-Living
things.

 Natural Non-Living
things are Soil, Rock, Natural Man-made
Water, Stone, Air, Things Things
Mountains etc.,

Six Characteristics of Living Things
 Food and Water – Living Things eat food. They need food
to stay alive to grow.

 Grow and Die – They grow and change.

 Breathes Air – They need air to stay alive.

 Feel – Responding to the environment – They are


sensitive to touch, light, sound, heat, cold etc.,

 Moving from one place to another – in search of food and


water – Move on their own.

 Reproduce – gives birth to their young ones or lays eggs.


How and What food do they eat?
 Human beings and Plants make their
own food.

 Animals cannot make their own food.


They eat plants or other animals to
live.
How do living things move ?
 Although the plants cannot move from one
place to other they are living things.

How and What do living things
breathe?
 Human beings and animals breathe in Oxygen and
breathe out Carbon-dioxide from air.
 Plants breathe in Carbon-dioxide and breathe out Oxygen.

How they feel to the changes
around them?
 Human beings feel with their sense organs
- Eyes, Nose, Ears, Tongue, Skin

 Cockroaches feel their changes around


them with a body part called Antennae.

 Plants grow healthy according to their


environment . Touch-Me-Not (Mimosa)
plant leaves are closed as soon as they are
touched. Lotus / Sunflower opens out at
sunrise and closes at night.
Reproduction – making of their own
kind
 Human beings, animals like cows, goats,
monkeys, elephants, lion, tiger Sharks and
Whales – gives birth to their young one.
 Birds, Fish, Crocodile, Snakes, Lizard – lays
eggs.
 Plants reproduce
 Produces seeds which grow into a new plant
 Some produce new plants from their stems
 Some plants produce from their roots
 Some plants produce from their leaves
