CULTURE IN

BELARUS
Made by Matvei Krichevskii BA-11
PLAN:
• Belarus
• Customs and traditions
• Family traditions
• Tourism
• National characters and stereotypes
Belarus
Belarus is my homeland. It is the
place where I was born. Officially it
is called the Republic of Belarus, a
sovereign independent state with its
own government, constitution, state
emblem, flag and anthem.
Belarus is situated nearly in the
centre of Europe in the extreme
western part of the East-European
Plain within the basins of the
Dnieper, the Western Dvina and the
Upper Neman. It borders on Poland
in the west, the Baltic States —
Lithuania and Latvia — in the north-
west, on Russia in the north and
east, on the Ukraine in the south.
Customs and traditions

Native Holidays
■ Kolyady
■ Kupalle
■ Maslenitsa

Religious Holidays are Christmas and

Easter Christmas.
Family traditions
Each family has its own traditions. The
most important thing in family is
understanding between its members.
Communication of family meals serves
this purpose. We always try to gather
together round the table in the evening.
We have supper or just drink tea and
discuss the latest news, interesting events
and future plans.
Going out together is a good family
tradition as well. It can be a picnic or
camping.
Tourism
■ The tourist potential of the Republic of Belarus is very high.
More and more people prefer not to travel outside the
country and choose beach holidays on the rivers and lakes
that the country is famous for. The development and
organization of tourism in Belarus has a high level, and
excellent prices for tourist services allow Belarusians and
residents of Russia to rest here, as well as guests from far
and near abroad. Due to its clean nature and ecology, Belarus
has the perspectives of fast and productive development of
tourism, which is promoted by the national tourism agencies
and companies engaged in the development of
new routes for travelers.
■ Place for visit:
1. Ancient Towns of Mir Nesvizh
2. Sula-Park-Museum and so on.
Population
Today there are over nine and a half million people living
in Belarus. Since nineties the number of population has
gradually decreased. However recently there is a baby
boom noticed in the country that is highly supported by the
state demographic policy.

People migrate to big cities. About seventeen per cent of

the country’s population is still in Minsk, the capital of
Belarus. The highest population density is in Minsk region

Belarusian population is characterized by such traits as

tolerance and hospitality. Mostly it is caused by
historical events that Belarusian nation had to experience.
Today there are different nations in the Republic with their
religions and languages.  The biggest part of the local
population is Belarusian (81,2%). The second place is
occupied by Russians (8,2%). There are also Polish,
Ukrainian, Jews and other ethnic groups in the country.
Most of the population speaks Russian though there are
two official languages in the country. Belarusian speaking
people can be met in Western Belarus.
National stereotypes and characters

Every nationality is surrounded by different types of stereotypes. A typical British’s a well-mannered

person, who likes wearing formal clothes and drinking tea. They like his home and his peats. A typical
American is a person who has an well-paid job, he is punctual and values his private life. A typical
Belarusian is tolerant, hospitable, kind-hearted and hard-working and likes potatoes.
