The document discusses damp proofing techniques for building construction including damp proof courses (DPC), damp proof membranes (DPM), and cavity wall construction. It also lists common types of plastics used in construction such as polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, and polystyrene and some of their uses like water proofing, flooring, and wall coverings.

DAMP-PROOF COURSE (DPC) IN DAMP – PROOFING MEMBRANE
It is a barrier through the structure designed to
prevent moisture rising by capillary action such as through a phenomenon known as rising damp. Rising damp is the effect of water rising from the ground into property. The damp proof course may be horizontal or vertical. A DPC layer is usually laid below all masonry walls, regardless if the wall is a load bearing wall or a partition wall. A damp-proof membrane (DPM) is a membrane material applied to prevent moisture transmission. A common example is polyethylene sheeting laid under a concrete slab to prevent the concrete from gaining moisture through capillary action. A DPM may be used for the DPC. CAVITY WALL CONSTRUCTION
Cavity wall construction, such
as rainscreen construction, is where the interior walls are separated from the exterior walls by a cavity. The cavity wall prevents the protection of water inside the building by shielding the main wall by an outer skin wall living a cavity between the two. It is an effective damp proofing technique. PLASTIC AS A BUILDING MATERIALS TYPES
1. Polyethylene Plastic (PE).
2. Polyvinyl Chloride Plastic (PVC). 3. Polystyrene Plastic (PS). 4. Polypropylene Plastic (PP). 5. Polyrmethyl Methacrylate (PMMA). 6. Polyester Resin (PR) . 7. Phenolic Resin (PF). 8. Organic Silicon Resin (SI) USES OF PLASTICS IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
Many construction companies are using plastic materials.
The components used include everything from plastic screws and hinges to bigger plastic parts that are used in decoration, electric wiring, flooring, wall covering, water proofing and so on.
