Question
The concentration of vinyl chloride 2 km
downwind from a continuous release 25 m
high is 1.6 mg/m3. It is a sunny day, and the
wind speed is 18 km/hr. Determine the
average concentration 0.1 km perpendicular
to the plume 2 km downwind.

From the question,
ANSWER
Step 1: determine the atmospheric stability classes from surface wind speed.
With Surface wind speed :

Because surface wind speed is 5m/s at table 5.1, we get the atmospheric stability as class C .

Down wind distance = 2km = 2000 m

From that we assuming that the location of the release is in a rural area.
ANSWER
The
  next step is, Determine the concentration (C) with eq. 5.49

 So, we can find the ratio between C and C using eq 5.49, and the result is :
1 2
ANSWER
For the question, we know
z=0
y1 = 0
y2 = 0,1 km = 100 m
C1 = 1,6 mg/m3
So the eq 5.49 become 2 2 2

ANSWER
 Or like this (eq 1) :

 Calculating dispersion coefficient as class C, using this eq :

Where :
X= 2km = 2000m
So :
ANSWER
 Using eq 1 , the eq become:

So, the concentration of vnyl chloride at 0.1 km perpendicular to the plume 2 km

downwind is 1,413 mg/m3
