SPRINKLER IRRIGATION
DEFNITION

In these method water is supplied to the

crop in form of sprinkle, that is water is
supplied in to the air and allowed to fall
on the soil surface
TYPES

Irrigation systems are classified as:

 Rotating head system
 Perforated Pipe system
The rotating head system is more versatile
and popular.
IMPORTANCE
 It increases crop yield. It protects from
famine. It
 helps to cultivate superior crops with the
water supply as per need of the crops.
 Ultimately it helps in economic development.
Irrigation water improves water
 conditions in the soil, increases the water
content of plant fibers, dissolves nutrients &
makes them available to plants.
COMPONENTS

 A pump unit
 Tubings- main/submains and laterals
 Couplers
 Sprinkler head
 Other accessories such as valves, bends,
plugs and rise
ADVANTAGES
Expansive land leveling is not required.
Ease and uniform application of fertilizers
and pesticides through irrigation system.
 High efficiency due to uniform water
distribution.
Increase in yield and quality, early ripening,
water conservation and alternative value of
specific period saving of labor, machinery,
fertilizer and pesticides.
DISADVANTAGES
 Higher initial cost.
 High and continuous energy requirement
for operation.
 Under high wind condition and high
temperature distribution and application
efficiency is poor.
