Trooping the Colour is the official annual


celebration of the Queen’s birthday. This
impressive display of pageantry takes place on a
Saturday in June. This year it falls on Saturday,
June 17.
WHO IS THE QUEEN

The Queen is Elizabeth II (known as Elizabeth Alexandra


Mary). She was born in London on the 21st of April 1926,
which makes her 90 years old. She was educated at home
and is the Queen of 17 countries. She has four children.
HISTORY

The custom of Trooping the Colour dates back to the time of


Charles 2 in the 17th century, when the Colours of a regiment were
used as a rallying point in battle and were therefore trooped in front
of the soldiers every day to make sure that every man could
recognize those of his own regiment.
THE OFFICIAL ANTHEM

Trooping the colours anthem's name is "God


save the Queen"
W H AT H A P P E N S D U R I N G T H E PA R A D E ?

The Queen leaves Buckingham Palace at 10am in a carriage (she used to


travel by horse). She arrives to take the Royal salute from the officers and men
on parade at 11am. The Regimental Colour (flag) is then carried down the ranks
followed by the bands. The Foot Guards and the Household Cavalry march past
Her Majesty and The King's Troop with their arms holding the guns. The Queen
rides back to Buckingham Palace and appears on the balcony with members of
the Royal Family at 1pm to watch a show of the Royal Air Force.
W H AT I S T H E " R O YA L A I R F O R C E " ?

The Royal Air Force that we can also RAF is the United
Kingdom's aerial warfare force. It is the oldest and the
largest independent air force in the world.
