• Identify the occupation portrayed by each picture below. Write your answers in

B. ESTABLISHING A PURPOSE FOR THE LESSON

• I will have a T-chart on the board. The 2 columns on the T-chart will be labeled
Fact and Opinion. I will bring out something tactile such as a stuffed animal and
ask the class for a fact about the stuffed animal. I will choose a student to give
me a fact. I will write that fact on the chart below the fact column. Then I will
ask the class to turn that fact into an opinion. I will choose a student for that
answer and write it on the board. I will try to ask at least 12 opinion or fact
questions about the stuffed animal so every student has a chance to answer.

Fruits are important sources of vitamins. They vary in sizes, colors and shapes.
Some fruits are considered seasonal while some are not. Among these fruits,

used as main ingredient different delicacies. They are also sweeter and cheaper as
compared to other fruits.

An opinion is an expression that is based from a person’s personal


feelings, emotions and perceptions. This kind of statement may be true
to some but not to all.

I. EVALUATING LEARNING
• Read the text about dolphins. Then, answer the questions that follow. Dolphins are one of the most
interesting animals that live on our planet. Dolphins are a type of mammal, but they live in the ocean.
Because they are not fish, dolphins have to come to the surface to breathe air—just like you and me.
Dolphins breathe air through their blow holes. Dolphins are the friendliest sea creatures. They live in groups
called pods, and they are willing to help each other. For example, if one dolphin is sick or hurt, the other
dolphins will help it to float to the surface to breathe until it is well enough to do this on its own. It’s
amazing how much dolphins care for each other. Dolphins also communicate with each other using clicks
and whistles. Even the sounds they make are friendly! I think people should be more like dolphins.

• Answers--Distinguishing Between Facts and Opinions When you read, it is important to be able to tell
the difference between facts, which are statements based on evidence that you could determine to be
true or false, and opinions, which are the author’s personal feelings or preferences. Read the text
about dolphins. Then, answer the questions that follow. Facts are highlighted in yellow; opinions are
highlighted in green. Dolphins are one of the most interesting animals that live on our planet. Dolphins
