ACTIVITY: DRAW YOUR LIFE MAP

What is a life map?


A life map helps you understand where you are by thinking Format:
about where you’ve been—geographically, culturally, socially,
 It can look like a timeline, taking you from where you
academically, professionally—and where you might want to
go next. were born to where you grew up to where you are now.
 It can look like a normal map, retracing your footsteps
across the world and pointing out all the places you’ve
been.
 Or it can be just a collection of pictures, showing a few
important memories or turning points.
 It does not have to be structured chronologically, and can
capture dimensions of your life that are not traditionally
reflected on a resume.
PEER DISCUSSION

 In a pair, give each person 5-7 minutes to talk through


the high points and critical moments in their life maps.
 Confluence: A moment when you realized an unexpected
 Debrief questions: connection.
 What were major turning points in their life?  Flow: A moment when you felt totally in sync with what
 What are the major themes you’ve identified in their journey? you were doing.
 Can you identify any moments of flow, contrast, realization,  Boldness: A moment when you did something bold
confluence, or boldness? because you believed in it strongly.
 What do you most admire about their trajectory?  Contrast: A moment when you realized that situation in
one place or for one person was starkly different than a
situation in another place or for another person.
 Realization: A moment you recognized a striking truth.
VISUALIZATION ACTIVITY

Find a quiet spot and sit comfortably, taking a few moments to breathe deeply and relax. Close your eyes and ask
yourself the following question:
If a miracle happened and when I open my eyes I have the perfect work for me, what would that look like? What
would I do for the next 24 hours?
DEBRIEF ACTIVITY

 Is your perfect work an an extension of your current work? Is it just a few steps away from where you already are?
Or is your dream work something wildly different from your current job?
 Is it rooted in your passion?
 What challenges stand in your way?
