River Erosion and Transportation
River Erosion and Transportation
So far we have learnt about the hydrological cycle and the drainage
basin. Look at the following video clips to help you remember.
Hint:
Imagine your skin is like the
bank / land. What can make
your skin rip and disappear?
(and all your bones fall out!)

TYPES OF EROSION
• Abrasion: rocks carried along by the river wear down the river
bed and banks.
• Hydraulic action: Water is forced into cracks in the bank. Over time
this breaks it up.
• Abrasion: rocks carried along by the river wear down the river bed
and banks.
• Attrition: rocks being carried by the river smash together and break
into smaller, smoother and rounder particles.
