I. Code of Ethics in the profession of architecture

Members of The American Institute of Architects are dedicated to the highest standards of
professionalism, integrity, and competence. This Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
states guidelines for the conduct of Members in fulfilling those obligations. A code of ethics
also referred to as an "ethical code," may encompass areas such as business ethics, a code of
professional practice and an employee code of conduct....Commentary is provided for some of
the Rules of Conduct. Honesty, open disclosure and sincerity are all characteristics of ethical
behavior. Many organizations include a commitment to ethical behavior in their code of conduct.
Professionals can adopt a personal code of conduct and make the same commitment on an
individual basis.
A professional code of ethics provides my employees with a set of guidelines they can use to
make good decisions in the workplace. It allows me to set a baseline expectation for what is
socially acceptable and how professionals should approach problems.
These are the seven code of ethics:

• Beneficence: concern for well-being and safety of clients.

• Nonmeleficence: Refrain from causing intentional harm to clients.
• Autonomy/Confidentiality: respect client's rights and opinions.
• Social Justice: provide services in a fair and equitable manner.
• Procedural Justice
• Veracity
• Fidelity

How to improve my professional ethics:

1. Be dedicated and punctual. Strong work ethics are reflected by an employee's dedication
and commitment to his job. ...
2. Be reliable. ...
3. Aim high in productivity and quality of work. ...
4. Be cooperative to my co-workers and respectful of my work resources.
5. Demonstrate a strong character.

II. Professional Conduct

Professional conduct is the field of regulation of members of professional bodies, either acting
under statutory or contractual powers. Historically, professional conduct was wholly undertaken
by the private professional bodies, the sole legal authority for which was of a contractual nature.
A professional work place attitude and appearance allow employees to take pride in their work and
improve worker performance. Managers who behave professionally set an appropriate example by
encouraging their people to conduct themselves in a manner that supports company-wide success.

Here are some tips i can use to maintain my own professional integrity and encourage an entire
culture of ethical behavior in the workplace:

1. Treat everyone the same.

2. Reward honesty.
3. Admit my mistakes.
4. Encourage teams to speak freely.
5. Conduct self-assessments.
6. Keep my commitments.
7. Put in maximum effort.
