Avogadro’s Law

Avogadro’s Law:
Equal Volume Of
gases at the same temperature and pressure contains the same
number of particles.
Real Life Examples of Avogadro’s Law

 As you pump air

(a form of gas)
into a flat basketball,
you are pressure into it.

more pressure=
increase volume
Avogadro’s Formula

 Formula:
V1/n1=V2/n2
*n represents the amount of gas.
• This is a direct relationship!
• So if amount of gas is increases, then the volume will increase. If
the amount of gas decrease, then the volume will decrease.
Avogadro’s Law: Volumes and Moles

 In Avogadro’s Law:
• The volume of a gas is directly
related to the number of
moles(n) of gas.
v1/n1=v2/n2

• T and P are Constant.

• More Volume: for a gas, this is the volume that one mole of that
gas occupies at STP.
(STP is standard temperature pressure)
• Avogadro’s showed experimentally that one mole of any gas will
occupy a volume of 22.4L at STP.
• Coversation Factor:
Avogadro’s indicates that
1mol (any gas)=22.4L at STP
Avogadro’s Law: Example 1
Calculate the volume that 0.881 moles of oxygen gas at STP will occupy.
Avogadro’s Law: Example 2
