Pattern  Main-clause can be put either in the beginning or last of the sentece. If it is
put at the beginning of sentence, don’t use a comma
Ex: I would buy a new house if I had a lot of money,
Main-clause If-clause
 Main-caluse and/or if-caluse might be in negative sentence
If Ann didn’t study hard, she wouldn’t pass the exam.
If-clause Main-clause

 In Conditional Sentence type 2, we usually use ‘were’ for all subjects.


Ex: If I were a bird, I would fly around the world.
 The meaning of conditional sentence type 2 is contradictive to the present
situation.
If you had breakfast this morning, you woulddn’t be hungry.
(it means, you don’t have breakfast this morning, you are hungry)

 Besides modal would, can also use modal ‘could’.


Analyze examples
 If she finished work early, She would go home.
 If the weather cleared, we’d go for a walk.
 I wouldn’t be able to work if I didn’t have a quiet
room.
 If they went by plane, it would arrive.
 If My friends were here , I would be happy
 The man would get good opportunity If he were not
lazy
 The students could do the test well If they studied
seriously
