Inclusive
Education
Inclusive education means all children in the same
classrooms, in the same schools. It means real learning
opportunities for groups who have traditionally been
excluded – not only children with disabilities, but speakers
of minority languages too.
Inclusive systems value the unique contributions students of
all backgrounds bring to the classroom and allow diverse
groups to grow side by side, to the benefit of all.
UNICEF’s work to promote inclusive
education
Advocacy: UNICEF promotes inclusive education in discussions, high-
level events and other forms of outreach geared towards policymakers
and the general public.
Awareness-raising: UNICEF shines a spotlight on the needs of
children with disabilities by conducting research and hosting
roundtables, workshops and other events for government partners.
Capacity-building: UNICEF builds the capacity of education systems
in partner countries by training teachers, administrators and
communities, and providing technical assistance to Governments.
Humanitarian Education
Humanitarian Education enables individuals to interpret
situations from a humanitarian perspective and empowers
them to address challenges and take action in the spirit of
the Fundamental Principles and humanitarian values of the
Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Humanitarian perspective
The Red Cross Red Crescent Movement believes that a
humanitarian perspective should be part of the common
core of knowledge, skills, understanding and values
children and youth develop.
Humanitarian Education enables children and young people to
assess and interpret events, daily life, from a humanitarian
perspective by applying fundamental principles, humanitarian law
and values and inspires to take humanitarian action through
voluntary service to bring principles and values to life.
