CONSERVATION OF
MASS
1A + 2B = AB2
• A is In excess
After the reaction • B completely
consumed

Before the reaction Mixture A and AB2
Learning Chemistry by HEART
Walk before you Run! Instead of presenting all the science
concept as a mere set of formulae and numbers.. Do the
following.
• Every scientific discovery started from a real-life story –
Paint the story. The more vivid, the better. There are the
reason why history is included in a chemistry book
• Teach the students to experience each problem using
their imagination. Problems are more easily solved if
visualized.
• Practice! Develop their ( SCIENCE) muscle memory
Application of Conservation of Mass
Problem No 1. Jaylo completely combusted 1.23 grams of
elemental Tin in the presence of 3.54 grams of oxygen gas.
After the reaction, elemental Tin remained and he recovered
1.48 grams of tin oxide ( Only on solid product). What is the
mass of oxygen remaining?
Sn

SOLUTION:
Mass of elemental tin + Mass of oxygen gas = Mass of tin
oxide + mass of oxygen
Sn Sn
25.34 g oxide
O2 7.31 g
1.23 O2 Sn
