WORK
WORK
In physics, measure of energy
transfer that occurs when an object is
moved over a distance by an external
force at least part of which is applied
in the direction of the displacement
WORK
Mathematically,
W= work
F= force
d= displacement
Formula
W=FXd
SI Unit
J (joule) = N (newton)*
m(meter)
Example Problem
If a force of 30 N is applied on an object that made
it cover a distance of 5.0m. Calculate the work
done.

Given: Formula:
Force (F) = 30 N W=F*d
Distance (d) = 5.0 m W = 30 N * 5.0 m
W = 150 N-m or 150 J

Example Problem
How many Joules of work are done when 10 N
force moves a table 10 m ?
How to solve work with given
angle ??
FORCE APPLIED AT A CERTAIN ANGLE
When force are applied at a certain angle , the expression of work
will involve the x-component of the applied force and the
displacement.

W = F cosθ X d
Example Problem
If the person pushes the luggage with a constant force
of 100N at an angle of 35 degree to the horizontal,
how much work does he do in pushing it to a distance
of 100 m?
Given: Formula:
Force (F) = 100 N W = F cos Ɵ * d
Distance (d) = 100 m W = (100 N cos 35) 100m
Angle (Ɵ) = 35 degree
W = 8192 N.m or J

Example Problem
How much work is done on a sled pulled 4.00 m to
the right by the force of 75.0 N at an angle of 35.0
degree above the horizon?
