Application Letter also known as cover letter, is a document sent with
your resume to provide additional information on your skills and
experience.

A letter of application typically provides detailed information on why


you are qualified for the job you are applying for.

Your application letter should let the employer know what position
you are applying for, why the employer ahould select you for an
interview, and how you will follow-up.
When writing an application letter you should include:

 First Paragraph: Why you are writing – mention the job you
are applying for and where you found the listing.
 Middle Paragraph (s): What you have to offer the employer
– mention why your skills and experiences are a good fit for
the job.
 Last Paragraph: Say thank you to the hiring manager for
considering you and note how you will follow up.

 Salutation (Dear madam / Sir)
 Opening of the letter
 Fisrt paragraph (has been explained before)
 Middle paragraph (content)

 1. A powerful OPENING STATEMENT that
grabs the attention of the hiring manager.
 2. The skills and qualities you have that MATCH
the job description.
 3. Why You Want to Work for Their Company.
 4. How you will ADD VALUE to their
organization.
TIPS for writing Application Letter:

 Keep it to just one side of A4.


 Include your email and telephone
within the letter.
 Carry out a spell check for errors.
 Send the letter via email and post.

Student Affairs Office notice board of the Hongkong Polytechnic University on 1 March 2005.
My working experience at Lucky Star Garment Manufactory Limited improved my leadership
skills, communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. I have fluent spoken and
written English. I also have fluent spoken and written Mandarin, and can therefore work in
mainland China.
Currently I am studying a B.A. in Management at the Hongkong Polytechnic University,
graduating in 2005. Subjects which I am studying that are relevant to the post of Management
Trainee include Operations Management, Human Resources Management, Accounting,
Marketing and strategic Management.
During my studies I have had the post of Executive in management Society. While leading

activities I have improved my ability to lead and supervise subordinates effectively, ability to
work under pressure and ability to work in a team environment.
