FIRE BLANKETS

Fire blankets are primarily for use on

hot oil fires such as frying pans or small
deep fat fryers. They can also be used
on someone whose clothing has caught
fire. They work by smothering the fire,
stopping access to the oxygen fueling it
and extinguishing it.

6
CAUSE OF HOME FIRE as per NFPA

According to the National Fire

Protection Association (NFPA), the
number one cause of home fires is
unattended cooking. Make sure
that you stay in the room while you
are cooking with a heat source. If
you cannot stay in the room the
whole time, ask another adult in the
family to watch over your food.

HOME FIRE
INCIDENT Experience

 Caught fire on cloth while cooking and did not realize the fire
 Tried to extinguish with water by opening the utensil wash basin water tab
 Not reachable to the fire location of the cloth
 Decided to extinguish by hand (patting)
 Shouted to help, rushed and extinguished the fire with nearby kitchen cloth
 Rushed to the nearby hospital and given first aid and further treatment
 The fire was quick, hence decided to remove the cloth and was not
removable
Rout cause of the fire:
 Ignorance / took easy / never faced such incidents earlier
 Applied VICKS VAPORUB around throat and chest to relief from common
cold
 Vicks Vaporub is highly flammable and contains camphor, menthol,
spirits of turpentine, oil of eucalyptus, cedarwood, nutmeg, and thymol

Recommendation:
Do Not Use or apply any highly flammable item before entering in to the
kitchen

HOW TO PREVENT
 Never leave your range or cooktop unattended while
cooking.
 Wear short, close-fitting or tightly rolled sleeves.
 Keep your cooking area clean and free of combustible
materials.
 Be sure to clean up any spilled or splattered grease.
 Keep a fire extinguisher and fire blankets readily available.
 However, we know accidents happen so prepare your home and family by
having a residential fire extinguisher on hand
 Fire extinguishers should be placed on every of your home, especially in the
kitchen and garage.
 You should also learn how to properly use a fire extinguisher to be prepared
in the event you have to use one.
