1. Define Social Sciences as the study of society; and

2. Distinguish Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Humanities.


Social Science is the study of society

and human behavior.

Encompass only the concepts, ideologies,

definitions and purposes of the multiple disciplines

under it.

Study of people- past and present, with a focus on
understanding the human condition

Focuses on human activities and their impact.
4. DEMOGRAPHY
Study of populations
5. POLITICAL SCIENCE
Focuses on the theory and practice of government
and politics.
6. PSYCHOLOGY
Studies the human mind and try too understand how
people experience the world through various
emotions, ideas and conscious states.
7. SOCIOLOGY
Understand the way people relate to each other and
function as a society or subgroups.
The Purpose of a Social Science

 Science – method of using a system of rational inquiry dependent on


empirical facts.
 Scientific Method- procedure that has characterized natural science
since 17th century, consisting of systematic observation, measurement ,
experiment, formulation and testing of hypothesis.
