INDIAN HOTEL INDUSTRY

● Tourism is a huge industry in India and continuously growing. It is also a significant source of
foreign exchange in the country. This booming industry has had a cascading effect on the
hotel industry with an increase in the occupancy ratios. The World Economic Forum has
ranked India at the 6th place in tourism and hospitality.

● The hotel industry thrives largely due to the growth in tourism and travel. With a
great increase expected in the tourism industry, the hotel industry is bound to grow
along with it.

● Size of the Industry: Indian Hotel Industry has supply of 110,000 rooms and about
150000 room in pipeline to come up
Value of the hotel market in India from 2010 to
2020 (in billion U.S. dollars)
● Total contribution by travel and tourism sector to India’s GDP is expected to increase from Rs 15.24 trillion (US$
234.03 billion) in 2017 to Rs 32.05 trillion (US$ 492.21 billion) in 2028.
● Scheme e-Tourist visa: Tourists do not need to visit any Indian consulate and can get their visa on arrival in India. This
led to a 53% growth in tourists in New Delhi, 16.6% in Mumbai, 5.5% in Bangalore etc.
● Also, due to increase in connectivity in businesses due to internet, a lot of domestic travel also happens increasing
the need for hotels for business purposes. Domestic air passengers crossed 100 million in 2017 which was a 17.31%
growth over 2016.

Introduction and Evolution of Technology

• Technology first started out by making machines that eased our work, reduced manual labor and
helped reduce hazardous risks at workplaces.
• These machines have since evolved and now also help to even make decisions on its own that
would earlier require the intervention of man.
• From computers of the size of huge rooms to smart watches on our wrists, became basic
necessities for all.
• Internet and the web is one of the core reasons for this expanse and impact of technology. One
such technology that has made a significant impact on human life is Internet of Things(IoT) in
Industry 4.0.
Internet Of Things (IOT)
The Internet of things is a system of interrelated
computing devices, mechanical and digital
machines provided with unique identifiers and
the ability to transfer data over a network
without requiring human-to-human or human-
to-computer interaction

For establishing Internet of Things, there should be groups of sensors,

which will take the input data from devices. This input data is processed
by the system and will be given to the control unit, here the decision-
making stage. The programmed control unit will analyse the input data
and decision will be taken. This will be given to the system unit through
the network and the operation will be done accordingly.
Applications Of IOT
Consumer IoT (CIoT) deals about the
connected devices in the consumer
segment. In this segment it mainly
01 Consumer IoT (CIoT) consists of Personal IoT and Home IoT
devices.
Example: smart watches, fitness
wearables, voice assistants

A greater technological advancement is going to

make in the fields like medical and health care,
02 Enterprise IoT (EIoT) transportation, retail etc. In this the enterprise IoT
devices and machines will bridge together and
collectively perform the tasks.

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is a way to digital

transformation in manufacturing. Industrial IoT employs a

03 Industrial IoT (IIoT) network of sensors to collect critical production data and
uses cloud software to turn this data into valuable insights
about the efficiency of the manufacturing operations.

Internet of things in Product Optimization process

Engineers and developers must design for analytics in IoT product development, which will in turn inform
the design. Success with putting this into practice requires engineers to understand the analytics that will
be applied to the operational data and consider how (and when) engineering processes will react to the
insights created. Engineers also need to apply systems engineering techniques such as modeling to
quantify and characterize this new part of the engineering process.
Internet of things in Supply Chain Management

You may have seen commercials and online advertising for everything from predictive maintenance to
home automation using IoT. It is a simple, largely intuitive concept that is helping to digitally transform
the supply chain and the way consumers live. From home automation in smart homes to smart cities and
DDOS attacks, IoT is in the news frequently these days.
Internet of things in New Product Development

During the pre-manufacturing stage

of a product’s lifecycle, brands use
pilot plants or laboratories to modify
existing products, or create entirely
new ones. These test environments
are used to manipulate formulas to
achieve the perfect raw materials
ratios for a successful product. The
equipment and devices used in
these pre-manufacturing processes
provide integration opportunities for
a PLM system and the plant or lab
floor.
