LIFE PROCESSES

The Processes required to maintain Life..

NUTRITION

Process Of Obtaining Nutrients From The

Environment i.e. Intake Of Food And Then Its
Digestion In The Body.
AUTOTROPHIC NUTRITION

It Is The Mode Of Nutrition Whereby A Living

Organism Is Able To Create/Produce Its Own Food.
Green Plants Are Examples Of Autotrophs.
HETEROTROPHIC NUTRITION

It Is The Mode Of Nutrition Whereby A Living

Organism Cannot Create/Produce Their Own Food.
They Are Dependent On Green Plants Or Animals For
Their Food.
HOLOZOIC NUTRITION
Holozoic Nutrition Is
A Method Of
Nutrition That Involves
The Ingestion Of Liquid Or
Solid Organic Material,
Digestion, Absorption And
Assimilation Of It To
Utilize It. It Includes
Taking In The Complex
Substances And Converting
Them Into Simpler Forms.
Example, Proteins Can Be
Broken Into Amino Acids.
SAPROPHYTIC NUTRITION

Saprophytes are the living organisms that live and feed on dead and
decaying organisms. Saprophytes undergo extracellular digestion to
digest the dead and decaying matter. They secrete digestive substances
into the surrounding environment and break down the organic matter
into simpler substances. The nutrients thus produced are absorbed
directly through the cell membranes of the organisms.
PARASITIC NUTRITION

Parasitic Nutrition Is A Mode Of Heterotrophic Nutrition Where

An Organism Lives On The Body Surface Or Inside The Body Of
Another Type Of Organism .
The Parasite Obtains Nutrition Directly From The Body Of The
Host.
RESPIRATION

Respiration Is Defined As The Biochemical Process

Wherein The Living Cells Of An Organism Produce
Energy By Taking In Oxygen And Liberating Carbon
Dioxide From The Oxidation Of Complex Organic
Substances.
RESPIRATION IN HUMANS

Human Respiratory System Is The Organ System That Involves Inhaling Of

Oxygen And Exhaling Of Carbon Dioxide To Meet The Energy Requirements.
The Human Respiratory System Consists Of A Group Of Organs And Tissues
That Help Us To Breathe. Lungs Are The Primary Organs Of The Respiratory
System Which Help In The Exchange Of Gases.
RESPIRATION IN PLANTS

The Process Of Respiration In Plants Involves Using The Sugars

Produced During Photosynthesis Plus Oxygen To Produce Energy
For Plant Growth. Respiration Takes Place In The Mitochondria
Of The Cell In The Presence Of Oxygen, Which Is Called Aerobic
Respiration.
