Case-1
A road Project was completed and handed over
in the last month. Though there was still six
months liability period, but there occurred an
accident because of the heap of debris at the
roadside. The victim sued the road department
for their negligence in clearing for the damages
occurred.
Discuss the situation, identify the liability and find
the exact wrongdoer.
Case-2
A military man in desert is dying of thirsty. When
another soldier sees him, he asks for cold water
that is with the soldier in his bag. If the soldier
does not give water, the military man is really
dying of thirsty and if the soldier gives water it is
sure that the military man will die due to cold
water stroke. Describe the dilemma of the
situation and make decision whether it is good to
give water to him or not to give water to him.
Case-3
Because of population from different sources the transport services
In Kathmandu has become very tedious. Passengers have to wait for
long But as the government allowed running microbuses on different
routes because of road widths, People’s participation and people’s
facilities ,people find some kind of support. But because of numbers
of micro bus increase, the roads, the environment and the thieves
spread like a plague. The government could provide public buses that
can carry a lot more number of people at a time in a single shift with
less bus and there by lessening bus-fumes.
Discuss whether the increase of micro bus was right decision of the
government instead of public buses.
Case-4
In 1990 heavy rain took away many concrete bridges of national
highway. One of them was the bridge of Malekhu. Because of
the necessity of the bridge for the transport of goods and home
travel for the people in the near great festivals the Dashain and
Tihar in a short time to build up. The government decided to
have help of the military to construct a Belly Bridge built of steel
structure over Malekhu river. The military people then built it in
a very short time to bring the high way into function. The Belly
Bridge could carry only limited weight at a time but that did
marvelous job.
Discuss whether the bridge built was right decision or it should
be built a bit later a strong enough to carry more loads at time even it
takes a long time.
Case-5
Because of number of buses going out of
Kathmandu valley during great festivals is so low
that the passengers going out of valley have to
spend nights at the Bus park for tickets. On the
other hand, people travel on top of buses
because of lack of seats available inside buses.
Most of the roads pass through hilly regions.
The roads in hilly regions have many turns and narrow
Widths.

Although the government has no rule of
traveling on top of buses, but people are forced
to do so because of less facilities in public buses.
There are risks for both- the passengers may
loose safe journey and the bus owners driver
may lose balance in driving with a result of
falling down into ditches with a lot loss of bus
and lives of travelers. Discuss it with your views.
Case-6
Human being discovered to have smoked to
keep away from cold or shivering. They used
green leaves of certain plants to dry and make
cigarette from it. They used during very cold
season. Because of using those leaves, they
become addicted and now they started using it
as their habits. The technology made it nice and
good looking in a packet nicely wrapped.

Discuss whether smoking is as a tool to keep
warm or is it a habit now?
Case-7
A RCC Bridge was designed by designer on behalf of
consultant. This was constructed by the reputed “A”
class contractor. After the completion of the
construction, traffic was allowed on the bridge. After six
months of operation there were crack in the bridge. A
Probe Team was established by Road Department. The
design Procedure was okay, but it was found the quality
of steel material used was not duly tested. The
contractor argued that the procedure of construction was in
accordance with the instruction of Engineer and
Specification.

There was also lack of proper supervision by the
consultant. The design load for the bridge was 20 Ton
It was also reported that there happen to pass more
than 20 Tons vehicles. The consultant was good friend
of contractor. Being a member of Probe Team, what is
your judgment on the failure of this bridge?
Case-8
XYZ Engineering College has bought 1000 computer for
computer lab which was procured through global
tendering from ABC company. Out of total computer
supplied 15 computers were not working. Extra money
has been demanded by the company to fix the problem.
The computers were received after the inspection by
Mr. Ramesh from xyz Engineering college. Explain how
the case can be settled by due regards, highlighting
your points in line with contract agreement, code of ethics
and Professionalism.
Case-9
Mr. Narendra is a municipal engineer and a member of
Regional Planning Board. He also engages in part time
consulting practice. As a consulting engineer, he
Prepared the plans for the subdivision development. As
a municipal engineer, he recommended approval of his
Plans to the regional planning board, he voted to
approve these Plans.
Discuss his acts with reference to ethics of Professional
and code of conduct.
