PARTICIPATION AND WORK
DONEPRODUCTION OF PRECAST
CONCRETE SLABS

The desired slab

dimension is
1m x 0.8m x 0.15m
Stage 1 :Binding of Reinforcement (production
of reinforcement Baskets)
 Steel reinforcements of
Y12mm dia. bars (high yield
steel) were used for the
production of the
reinforcement basket for the
slabs.
Stage 2: Form work for Slabs

Stage 3: BATCHING OF CONCRETE

Casting of Slab

Freshly mixed grade M20 concrete mixed with a mobile mixer was used to
cast the slabs. Vibration of the element was done using internal vibrators
(poker vibrator) to vibrate the concrete thereby removing entrapped air
voids.

of Sub-base

Step (4): Leveling and Compaction of Base(Stone-Base)

Step (5):
PRIMING OF BASE COURSE (STONE-BASE)

An MC1 (medium curing

0ne) bituminous prime coat
was applied on the base
course surface and allowed
to cure for 48 hours.

Step (6): Asphalting of Road Pavement

EXPERIENCES GAINED
FILED EXPERIENCES
During my 24 weeks industrial training at Faith Plant Global International Services
limited, I learnt about
the different stages involved in Road Rehabilitation,
Different layers of a Flexible Pavement and I saw them with my eyes.
Prime coats and Asphalt Concrete,
Differences Between Flexible and Rigid Pavements and where Both are
Applicable.
I was also exposed to different Construction Equipments and I learnt their
Functions,
I learnt how to Interact with Workers on Site.

I also gained experience in

the field of Surveying and Leveling,
the basic concepts of Concrete Mixes and Strength,
I learnt how to take Readings using Measuring Instruments (e.g. Distances, etc.),
I learnt how to Bind Reinforcements together to form Baskets and how to
Produce Precast Slabs.
CHALLENGES FACED
During the road rehabilitation at unical, after getting to Sub-base
Completion, the ENTIRE Work was destroyed and Washed away by
flood caused by Rain. This caused us some amount of money which
could have been used for other purposes.

SOLUTIONS PROVIDED
1. Production of Water Ways
2. Production of Temporary Bumps
3. Clearing/Cleaning of already existing drains
Conclusion 1
My student industrial work experience program ended on
the 21st of December, 2019. In general, the past six
months of the industrial training was a very essential era
of my life as an undergraduate student. This program has
without any element of doubt helped in the aspects of
knowledge and experience. I now understand the
importance of merging practical and theoretical
knowledge together, i.e., it is not worthwhile to have
theoretical knowledge without practical experiences and,
it is also not worthwhile to have practical experiences
without theoretical knowledge. There must be a good
combination of both of those aspects for one to be an
excellent civil engineer.
RECOMMENDATION
Faith Plant Global (Int’l) Services is recommended as a good training
establishment for industrial training students. They take the trainee through the
Basics of civil Engineering works.

Design classes in schools should be more practical oriented. Students should be

able to identify different Pavement layers for Road Design and Different Structural
Members For Structural Design, and their properties not just doing only the
theoretical aspect of it.

Design Softwares should be introduced and taught Students From 200 Level, so
that the Students will have a good understanding of these Softwares before
getting to 400 level, as it is of VERY HIGH demand in the field of Civil Engineering.
Also, Students Should be Taught at least five (5) Softwares before Leaving the
university as anREFEREN
Undergraduate.
