Introduction
• Goa is located on the southwestern part of India which gives it a wonderful scenery and
a place preferred by the tourists all around the globe. The Arabian sea forms the
western coast of Goa with a beautiful seashore. It is surrounded by the states of
Maharashtra to the north and Karnataka to the east and south. It is separated from
the Deccan plateau by the Western Ghats. Talking about the size it is the smallest by
area and fourth-smallest by population.
• Its capital is Panaji. The largest city is Vasco Da Gama which is named after the
Portuguese sailor who first arrived in India. The art and culture of the Portuguese can
still be seen in Goa. The Portuguese voyaged to the Indian subcontinent in the early
16th century as merchants but soon invaded over the area making it a part of
Portuguese India for until 450 years after which India annexed it in 1961. It’s official
language is Konkani which is spoken by most of the people there.

Chavoth, Samvatsar padvo, Dasara etc.

Vibhusan Award which is given by the government of Goa
since 2010.
