Physical network Design and Installations

 Design requirements must be pre-defined the following terms:-

 Survey organization building arrangement based on four directional
structures.
 Draft/sketches all buildings within the organization.

 Measure and draw each room of the organization including between

blocks.
 Put the appropriate location of stores and toilets without measurement
even if out of the network installation.
 Taking measurements for each room as well as corridors carefully and
accurately.
Continued…
Write the number of nodes in the room and departments name for each working
rooms.

If the room wall is rectangular only measure two sides, otherwise all sides are not
equal taking measurements for both sides.

After collecting necessary data/information, put the network design using Visio
software on the computer.

Draw on the Visio application software as outline as real taking measurements, the
number of nodes and room/department name,

Show the appropriate position of rack mounting location on the Visio software. In
other words Access switch places based on shortest distance of server room and users.

Show the back bone connectivity on the network design.

Continued…
 Finally, count the number of users, and then calculate the total number
of access switches equal to number of users divided by 22 switch ports
to get the required number of access switches.
 The number of users equal to the number of wall-out-let.

 To calculate the amount of UTP CAT 6 cable (add all class room
perimeter for one node multiply the number of nodes only existing
found in the room.
 Other options, from accesses switch taking the long and shortest
distance, then add and divide into two to get average distance, finally
add drop and loos cable of 5.6 meter and multiply by the number of
nodes connecting to the rack and add 10 percents.
Continued…
 To find out the total trunk length add the perimeter of each room length
and sum perimeter from all rooms that can be connected from the same
rack position, then after add corridor distance and 10 percent for loosing
and dropping trunks.
 The number of user is multiplying by four to get the amount of required
RJ-45 connector.
 Patch panel is equal to the number of switches.

 The number of Rack and type is needed based on the number of users on
the nearby location.
 Router must be required only one in an organization.
 Core switch one or two based on the budget of an organization.
Continued…
 Data storage such as server, if the organization has developed
system and database there must be required a server and server ups,
if not developed system not necessary.
 All the above network materials extract from complete design must
be done otherwise guess the project in accurate requirements will be
insufficient or excess network materials.
 Finally prepared the documents for guidelines for further
troubleshooting and ease of maintain the network while problems
occurred.
During Installations:-
 Trunking (possible size of trunk---40:25, ,60:40, 80:40,100:40)

 Cable installation,
 Wall-out-let fixing and labeling,

 Rack position fixing and rack labeling possible size of rack

(6u,9u,12u,42u) common for network infrastructure.
 Punching keystone on user side or pach-pannal on rack side and crimping
RJ-45 connector both user side and rack side respectively.
 Back bone cable labeling,
 Crimping patch-cord both user and rack side 2-3 meter and 50 cm,

 Testing end to end cable connectivity.

 Finally, configure the network device (Switch & Router) entire testing.
