Introduction

 What is Displacement?
 How would you know about displacement?
 What are the differences between distance and
displacement?
Definition

 Displacement
- Is a vector quantity which can be best described by both
the magnitude and direction. It is the straight line distance
from the initial position to the final position.
- The straight line distance of an object from the starting
position to the final position plus the direction.
- The moving of something from its place or position.
Examples of Displacement

- Man walking on a bridge

- Car driving from Jollibee to SLEX
- Can rolling on the table
Purpose of displacement

 1. Displacement: the straight distance from Ax to xB., north

of east Thus, we can conclude that all displacement are
considered as distance but not all distance are
displacement.
 Clockwise and counterclockwise from x and y axis.
 Examples:
 a. 30 degrees counter clockwise from x-axis or from the
east.
 b. 60 degrees clockwise from y-axis or from the north.
2. North, East, West, and south ( NEWS ).

3. Left, right, up and down.

Combining Displacements

 An example of this is a vector.

 This is a quantity that has a magnitude and a
direction
 Magnitude= size length or amount
 Arrows on a graph are used to represent vectors.
 The length of an arrow shows the magnitude of a vector
