What is blood glucose test
Aka Blood Sugar Test, HGT (hemo-glucose
Test)
A blood sugar test is a procedure that measu
res the amount of sugar, or glucose, in your
blood. Your doctor may order this test to help
diagnose diabetes. People with diabetes can
also use this test to manage their condition.
Blood sugar tests provide
instant results and let you know the following:
your diet or exercise routine needs to chan
ge
how your diabetes medications or treatment is w
orking
if your blood sugar levels are high or low
your overall treatment goals for diabetes are man
ageable
Risk factors for diabetes
 you are 45 years old or older
 you are overweight
 you don’t exercise much
 you have high blood pressure, high triglycerides, or low
good cholesterol levels (HDL)
 you have a history of gestational diabetes or giving birth to
a baby who weighed over 9 pounds
 you have a history if insulin resistance
 you have a history of strokes or hypertension
 you are Asian, African, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, or Native
American
 you have a family history of diabetes
High blood sugar
Symptoms:

How is a blood sugar test
administered?

 The hemoglobin A1c test tells you your a
verage level of blood sugar over the past
2 to 3 months. It's also called HbA1c,
glycated hemoglobin test, and glycohem
oglobin.
 People who have diabetes need this test
regularly to see if their levels are staying
within range. It can tell if you need to
adjust your diabetes medicines. The A1c
test is also used to diagnose diabetes.

STEPS IN HGT MONITORING
Gather the equipments to be use:
 Lancet
 Glucometer
 Strips
 Alcohol pads/
 Gauze or cotton balls
STEPS IN HGT MONITORING
1. Wash hands
2. Introduce yourself
3. Confirm patient details
4. Explain procedures
5. Gain Consents
6. Ensures patients hands are
clean.
STEPS IN HGT MONITORING
8. Done gloves
9. remove safety cap of lancet.
10. position patient hands on table
11. Prick the side of patient finger
12. squeeze to produce drop of blood
and drop on the tip of the strip
13. wait for the result and document.
14. Dispose the lancet properly and

is right even though I think
it is hopeless."
