● Language is a defining feature
of culture, language and a mark
of personal identity.
● Language is the basis of
communication and the primary
instrument of thought.

● Language Learning is a lifelong process that begins at birth.
● It is essential that students develop language informally in
their early years before they learn to understand the
languages’ rules and conventions.
● In later life, language learning happens when learning in
specific contexts.
● Students enhance their language by utlizing what they already
know in more sophisticated context. By incorporating new
language structures, they develop language fluency and
proficiency.

Responsibility for language learning is


shared by students, parents, teachers,
and the community.
Schools need to provide learning
opportunities in order to develop the
student’s language acquisition.
Teachers that teach the specialised
language bear the heaviest
responsibility in language development.

● All these three are interrelated
● Enables students to play an active role in various communities
of learners within and beyond the classroom.
● Critical and creative thinking and learning through language
occur when students reflect, speculate, create, analyze
● Enables students to develop metacognition (to reflect upon
and control their own thinking and learning processes)
● Develop an awareness of the skills and strategies they need to
complete learning tasks successfully and to communicate
about themselves

❖ ELA (English Language Arts) Framework reflects
an expanded understanding, based on recent
research, of how students develop language and
literacy skills.
❖ Includes:
1. reflects and stresses the integrated nature
of the six language arts
2. emphasizes the impact of technological
advances on language teaching and learning
3. promotes the importance of inquiry and
critical thinking in the development of
reflective learners
