In this lesson, you will learn to use the
present continuous tense to about what
people and animals are doing.
What are you doing?
Do you remember how to use the present
continuous tense to talk about actions?

: What are you doing?

: I am reading. I + am + …ing

: What are you doing?

& : We are playing. We + are + …ing

We add ing to verbs.

He is …ing.
How do we talk about other people then?

He is eating.

He + is + …ing
He is …ing.
We use He is … to talk about what a boy is
doing.
is he
A : What is hedoing?

B : He is running.
Sometimes we need to double
the last letter before we add ing.

When do we do
this?
He is …ing.
When the letter before the last
letter is a short vowel, we double
the last letter and add ing.

a, e, i, o, u
skip
p + ing  skipping
run
n + ing  running
She is …ing.
What can we say when we want to talk about a
girl’s action?

A : What is she doing?

B : She is dancing.
Sometimes we delete the e at
the end before we add ing.

When do we do
this?
She is …ing.

When the last letter of the word

is e, we take it away and add ing.
dance + ing  dancing
skate + ing  skating
They are …ing.
Now we know we can use He / She is … to talk
about another person’s action.
They are
They

is riding bicycle.

We use They + are + …ing to

talk about what two or more
Whatare
people if there
doing. is
more than one girl
riding a bicycle?
They are …ing.
Here is another example.

A : What are they doing?
